A SURVERY DONE TO DOG OWNERS IN TORREVIEJA SHOWS THAT 12% OF DOGS DO NOT HAVE A CHIP AND 62% IS NOT CASTRATED

Animal Welfare Councillor, Carmen Morate, has showed the survey results done anonymously to 115 dog owners who were having a walk with them In the street. It has given a "clear vision of the problem and need that we have in Torrevieja" she said.

The survey, done in 2016, has been analyzed by a new administrative staff in the department,and shows that the 12% of the dogs did not use chip, 62% were not castrated and 24% of people interviewed adopted voluntarily their pets from the Municipal Shetler in Torrevieja.

Carmen reminded that the "use of a microchip is mandatory in the region and the failure of the rule could cost a 1.000 euros fine". This way, Local Police has taken responsability in this issue. Morate has also reminded that those who need to update information about the microchip data, can do it for free in the municipal office (plaza capdepont) from 8-14 from Mon-Fri or by calling 965 705 243. The 115 people interviewed have 152 dogs, which gives 1.3 dogs per house. 50% of them confirm also to have another kind of pet.

Regarding the dogs walks, more than a half of them walk in the streets and pavements, and less than a half do it in parks, gardens and seasides. 70% believes that there are not enough suitable areas.

One of the most common complain, mentioned in the survey, is dogs defecations. After the Major statements a couple of months ago about the importance of cleaning the defecations, 70% confirms they know about it, but 32% do not.
