The Councilor for the Environment of the Torrevieja City Council, Antonio Vidal, together with the Councilor for Education, Ricardo Recuero, the director-conservator of the Lagunas de La Mata-Torrevieja Natural Park, Francisco Martínez, and the deputy manager of AGAMED, Gemma Cruz , have presented this morning the planting and regeneration activities that will be carried out on the occasion of the celebration of Tree Day 2024. Some actions that will take place on January 31 and February 1, for schoolchildren from all centers Torrevieja schools.

An activity that aims to make young people aware of the importance of ecological regeneration and the planting criteria, making this one of the most participatory and important in recent years in the Valencian Community.

Under a forecast of 800 plants, students from the 14 school centers will travel to plant in an area of the Natural Park, where they will plant native species such as mastic kermes oak, taray, lavender, juniper, black hawthorn, palmetto, santolina, Aleppo pine , aladierno, rosemary and carob.

To carry out this activity, AGAMED has carried out the preparation and adaptation work for the planting space, located in the upper area of the Park, as well as the emergency irrigation and plant protectors.

For her part, Gemma Cruz highlighted that within the objectives of DS+ and the environmental policy, AGAMED establishes different indicators aimed at minimizing the impacts of CO2 emissions. In addition, he highlighted the value given to education and environmental regeneration, celebrating this day to raise awareness among the population in general and school students in particular of the importance of vegetation for absorbing CO2 and preventing the degradation of the areas of the natural park.
