Call for the II National Amateur Theater Contest "Raúl Ferrández"

The Councilor for Culture of the City Council of Torrevieja, Antonio Quesada, has announced that the call has already been opened to participate in the II National Amateur Theater Contest "Raúl Ferrández", convened by the Municipal Institute of Culture "Joaquín Chapaprieta", and that It will remain open until Monday, March 7.

All non-professional associations, collectives and other groups linked to the performing arts may participate in this contest, admitting any genre and the works must be performed in Spanish.

The organization will select among the applicants the five groups that will participate in the contest, the work to be staged being of free choice and theme. The duration of each performance may not be less than 55 minutes or more than 120 minutes.

The staging of the works participating in the contest phase will be on March 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25, at 8:30 p.m., at the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Center. Admission is free until capacity is filled.

The II “Raúl Ferrández” National Amateur Theater Contest will award a prize for the Best Play, endowed with 2,000 euros and a Trophy, and a “Maribel Vallejos” Special Audience Award, endowed with 500 euros and a Trophy. In addition, the jury will award trophies to the best actor and best actress, as well as trophies and participation certificates to all participants.

The jury is made up of a group of experts selected by the IMC "Joaquín Chapaprieta" at the proposal of the director of the Municipal School of Theater "Raúl Ferrández". Being these:

The jury's decision and award ceremony will be held in the public act that will take place on Sunday, March 27, at 8:00 p.m., at the Municipal Theater of Torrevieja, with the attendance of at least one representative of each company being mandatory. selected to be eligible for a prize. The act will proceed to the reading of the World Theater Manifesto, and the play "La Mama", written and directed by Jesús García Gallera, will be performed.

Each participating group will have a meeting with the students of the EMT "Raúl Ferrández", for a casual chat between the artists and the future actresses/actors.

The President of the Municipal Institute of Culture, or whoever legally replaces him, will be part of the jury with voice but without vote. Likewise, Carolina Martínez López, an official attached to the Department of Culture, will be the secretary in charge of preparing the minutes of the jury.

In the first edition of the “Raúl Ferrández” National Amateur Theater Contest, held in 2021, the award for best play went to “Los locos de Valencia” by Ugteatro (Murcia). The special “Maribel Vallejos” Public Prize was awarded to “MADRE”, from the company La Cueva de Melpómene.
