Torrevieja City Council will begin to install in the next few days the lighting for the next patron saint festivities and Christmas festivities, which this year will reach some sixty streets, walkways and squares in the city, placing more than 570 arches and lamppost motifs that will shine between on November 26, 2022 and January 6, 2023. Although the festive lighting has been considerably expanded this year, reaching a greater number of places in the municipal area, there will be savings in electricity consumption of more than 30 percent less.

The Councilor for Festivities, Concha Sala, explained that the reduction of more than 30 percent will be possible thanks to the installation of all the latest technology LED luminaires with high efficiency, in addition to a considerable reduction in the lighting time. Until last year, the party lighting remained on from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., and for this year 2022, in accordance with the rules of containment of energy consumption, it will only be turned on from 6:00 p.m. to 02:00 a.m.: 00 hours.

The electrical installation has been reinforced and renovated with the provision of new wiring, electrical panels, and new magneto-thermal clocks that will offer better performance. In recent days, the Local Government Board ratified the decision of the Contracting Committee to definitively award the party lighting contract to the merchant, Servicio Integral de Instalaciones Eléctricas Radiluz SL, for an amount of 291,152.36 euros plus VAT.

The City Council, through the Department of Festivities, has expanded the number of streets and spaces in the municipality where the lighting will arrive. New installations will be produced in Villa de Madrid and San Antonio de La Mata streets. A birth will be placed in a roundabout or garden, as well as 18 cones in different roundabouts.

The lighting improvements will be applied in the following developments: La Siesta (entrance area), Torreta Florida and Los Balcones. Arches, signs and 320 linear meters of garlands with light bulbs will alternate. The La Mata Town Hall building will also be decorated for the first time, where the lighting on the façade of the Virgen del Rosario Parish will be updated. The arch extensions will take place in the Calle Mayor de La Mata, in the Plaza de Oriente with new lamppost elements; illumination of the trees on Concepción Street, where an extraordinary design will be carried out and the adornment of the façade of the Church of the Immaculate will also be improved. Especially for the days of the patron saint festivities, practically the entire route of the Magna Procession on December 8 will be completed with the installation of banners with the image of La Purisima, patron saint of the city, for which 25 new allegorical elements will be placed .

Other areas that will premiere Christmas lighting will be the Paseo de la Libertad to the intersection of Ramón y Cajal street. Desiderio Rodríguez Avenue between Los Montesinos and Pinoso Avenues, the lamppost elements of Gregorio Marañón Avenue between Guardamar and Faleria streets will also be renewed. Ten signs will be placed, of which three will be new in the San Roque neighborhood and the Los Balcones urbanization and, for the first time, a congratulatory sign in English will be displayed at the entrance of the La Siesta urbanization. As improvements, luminous arches will be located in the area of the Monument to the Cultures of the Mediterranean (Playa del Cura), Plaza del Calvario, Plaza del Molino and Avenida de la Estación.

It is also planned that, along with the decoration of the Plaza de la Constitución, two great allegories of Torrevieja will be placed there. A monumental walkable Christmas tree 20 meters high, one of the largest in the province of Alicante, will be located on the Paseo Marítimo de Juan Aparicio, in addition to placing a sign in this place. Christmas trees or large elements will also be installed in the Plaza de Oriente, Plaza de Encarnación Puchol de La Mata and at the entrance to the Palacio de los Deportes "Tavi y Carmona".
