The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, accompanied by the councilor for Projects and Quality of Urban Services, Sandra Sánchez, has presented this morning the draft of the new La Plasa building, after having been recently acquired by the City Council. A preliminary project that defines a building totally different from the current one, which will gain transparency to the outside, both in the space of the food market itself and on the upper floors, integrated with the urban environment and, above all, which will generate great administrative and university. La Plasa has a ground, first, second and third floor.

The municipal food market is located in the total area of the ground floor. Eduardo Dolón has reported that the proposed action aims to open the market abroad, enabling up to 30 supply points compatible with restaurant stalls, evaluating the option of creating points of sale for hotels abroad. The external automatic stairs will be eliminated, changing the internal circulation by a central staircase.

On the first and second floors, added the mayor of Torrevieja, there are training classrooms, a university study room and multi-purpose rooms, although the City Council is evaluating other possible uses based on its own needs, such as the Office of the Department of Commerce and the Office of the Urban Open Shopping Center. The offices of the Local Development Agency (ADL) and its specific classrooms for training and spaces for the promotion of employment will also be located, in addition to creating multipurpose spaces for young people on the third (last) floor (concert halls, rehearsals and/or meetings of youth associations), where the cinemas were located.

In the preliminary project presented this morning, the direction of movement of the building is completely reformulated and the four entrances to the building are maintained, expanding the main entrance through Azorín street, by eliminating the current escalators and the two elevators.

Work is currently underway with the new Specifications to award the drafting of the final execution project, which is already underway. The objective of the Torrevieja City Council is to be able to tender the works during the next summer, in order to begin the reform works during the last quarter of this year or as rescheduled in agreement with the market vendors.

Given the duration of the works, it is intended to enable the food market as soon as possible, regardless of the works in the upper part. However, it is a matter that must have the approval of all the agents involved in decision-making.

Finally, it should be noted that last Friday, February 17, the mayor met in the plenary hall with the vendors of the food market and the members of the boards of directors of APYMECO and the Association of Hospitality Entrepreneurs of Torrevieja and the Region , as well as with hoteliers and merchants in the areas adjacent to La Plasa.
