CHANGE OF USES OF THE RESIDENCE

On January 23, 2024, the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, together with the Councilor for Social Welfare, announced that the Local Government Board approved the modification of the transfer by the Torrevieja City Council to the Department of Equality and Inclusive Policies of the Generalitat Valenciana for the change of uses of the Residence for people with disabilities, located on Avenida Delfina Viudes.

With this approval, it was agreed that the implementation of a shelter for minors would disappear from the building, and that the residence would be used entirely to serve people with functional diversity, complemented by the family meeting point.

Eduardo Dolón reported that the logical criterion was to allocate said building to the uses planned in the initial project, that is, that the entire residence was used exclusively to accommodate people with disabilities, since there is an enormous demand for places. in the Valencian Community, particularly in the Vega Baja region. Furthermore, the mayor stressed that these people need attention, autonomy and provision of sufficient public means, and the approach carried out in 2019 jointly by the Torrevieja City Council and the Generalitat Valenciana, promoted precisely the opposite.
