Citizens from Colombia were the most assisted with 36%, followed by Russia 15%, Morocco 9%, the United Kingdom 5%, various non-EU countries 31%, and the European Union 4%.

The Councillor for Social Welfare, Coexistence and Integration of the Torrevieja City Council and head of the Migrant Assistance Office (PANGEA), Óscar Urtasun, reports that during the past year 2024 a total of 1,678 people were assisted in this office, 53% of whom were women and 47% men, representing a total of 56 different countries, with a total of 743 people being assisted by telephone and 935 people in person.

Likewise, Oscar Urtasun adds, citizens from Colombia were the most assisted with 36%, followed by Russia 15%, Morocco 9%, the United Kingdom 5%, various countries of the European Union 4%, and other non-EU countries 31%.

The most discussed topics in the attention and information of the PNGEA Office were: Residence by roots 40%, Immigration/National Police 30%, Spanish courses: 15% and other types of information 15%.

ROOTING REPORTS

The Councilor for Social Welfare, Coexistence and Integration indicates that in 2024 a total of 379 reports of social roots were made (47% men and 53% women), to migrants from 32 countries. The most representative countries have been: Colombia 39%, Russia 17%, Morocco and Brazil 5%

It is worth highlighting the addition of new countries to the reporting request for the year 2023, such as Panama and Saint Lucia.

ACTIVITIES ORGANIZED BY PANGEA

Lastly, Óscar Urtasun highlighted that last year two Spanish courses were held for foreign immigrants in the process of obtaining residency, through theoretical and practical workshops, in which the following levels of the Spanish language were taught: Literacy and Basic, organised in collaboration with the Association for Social Transformation and Integration (ATIS).

In addition, several information sessions were held for associations and groups on how PANGEA works, as well as the procedure for requesting social roots; and the II World Cup of 7-a-side football was played with the motto “Integration through sport”, which brought together teams from 10 countries (Cape Verde, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Colombia, Ecuador, Romania, Ukraine, Brazil and Spain) and whose objective is to promote coexistence between residents of different countries.
