The Comprehensive System for Tourism Quality in Destinations, hereinafter SICTED, is a program promoted by the State Secretariat for Tourism, through the Autonomous Communities and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), whose main objective is to achieve a homogeneous level of quality in tourism services, both those that are strictly touristic and those that, without being so, contribute to the formation of the tourist experience of the destination.
Torrevieja joined this system in 2014. The Valencian Community Tourism Authority (Tourisme Comunitat Valenciana) finances the training, advisory, and evaluation services required for its implementation, meaning there are no costs for companies. This is all achieved through a collaboration agreement between the regional government and the Alicante Chamber of Commerce. Currently, 86 companies have been recognized and a total of 103 are members.
Torrevieja covers 19 of the 37 occupations currently offered by the SICTED (National Tourism Board), of which 8 are municipal resources and facilities: 6 beaches, a tourist information office, and Citizen Security, in addition to the La Mata-Torrevieja Natural Park. The largest number of recognized tourist services corresponds to bars and cafes (20), restaurants (17), shops (10), and hotels and tourist apartments (8).
The highlight this year is the increase in the number of businesses certified with the Q for Tourism Quality, rising from 10 to 21: the Real Club Náutico, the Tourist Information Office, Hotel Playas de Torrevieja, El Muelle Restaurant, six beaches, two services run by the Mar Time company, and nine beach bars.
A total of 38 tourism services were recognized, eight of which were first-time recipients (Am Home192, Delicious Bakery La Jijonenca, Kaaviar Beach Club La Mata, Playa de la Mata y los Locos, Rumbo Torrevieja, Salinas de Torrevieja, and Trainvision Spain-Torrevieja).
