Rosario Martínez Chazarra, Councilor for Tourism at Torrevieja City Council; César Azorín Molina, Senior Scientist since 2021 at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC); Marcos Martínez Roig, CSIC specialist in artificial intelligence models applied to environmental data and weather forecasting; and Ricardo Granados, representative of Proyecto Mastral, presented the pioneering T-windPred project this morning. The project was initiated by the City Council and its TI·LAB (the headquarters of the University of Alicante in Torrevieja), and is supported by Proyecto Mastral, which shares data to improve the predictive model.

T-windpred is a project under development that will end in the summer of 2025, and aims to develop a tool and/or web application (climatoc-lab web) based on artificial intelligence (AI) that allows the creation and prediction of wind speed maps in Torrevieja based on observations obtained from meteorological stations of Proyecto Mastral, AEMET, AVAMET and SIAR in real time.

This tool will focus on making short-term predictions, specifically for the next 12 hours, using the last 12 hours of data recorded by weather stations in the area (temporal resolution = 1 hour).

A tool with potential applications in tourism and leisure, beach management and use, nautical activities, fires, etc. Future developments are also planned for the application, including beach flag predictions, alert dispatch, historical review, and improvement of Artificial Intelligence models (wind direction and gusts), among others.
