In the period from 2019 to 2025, there has been an increase in the school population of 50.12%, much higher than the population increase in the municipal register.

This morning, the Local Government Board of Torrevieja City Council approved the transfer of municipal land to the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Employment for the construction of educational centers in our city.

The Councilor for Education, Ricardo Recuero, has indicated that, after reviewing the data from the Municipal Registry from January 1, 2024 to January 1, 2025, the population has gone from 99,033 inhabitants to 106,350, which represents an additional increase of 7.39% in the interannual period 2024-2025 compared to the aforementioned percentage of 14.44% of the INE, which leads us to a relative population increase of 21.83% in the period 2021-2025.

In the specific case of the school-age population, the city's enrollment went from a total of just over 10,000 students in 2019 to a school-age population of 16,363 students. This represents an increase of more than 50% in the school-age population between 2019 and 2025, a figure far exceeding the relative population increase.

In order to meet the needs described above, Torrevieja City Council owns certain plots of land that could be used for the construction of new educational centers:

  1. Plot SECTOR 6 "VILLA AMALIA", with an area of 11,105 m2, for the construction of a center in line 3 - CEIP 14. The plot has the status of a plot.
  2. Plot in Sector 20 "La Hoya," with a surface area of 11,075 m2. This plot could be used for a center in line 3 - CEIP 15.
  3. Plot SECTOR 1 “LA CEÑUELA”, with an area of 14,356 m2 for the construction of a Secondary Education Institute - IES 6.

In this way, the Torrevieja City Council offers and makes available to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Universities and Employment of the Generalitat Valenciana the following plots, so that this Ministry can assess their viability for the construction of different educational centers and, consequently, give its approval to the offer made by this City Council, to subsequently finalize the pertinent collaboration instrument or with the processing of the corresponding heritage file regarding them.

Finally, Ricardo Recuero announced that officials from the Ministry of Education will soon visit Torrevieja to present the entire educational strategy that will be implemented in the coming years to meet the city's needs.
