The City Council will create 90,000 square metres of new green areas over the next few years and plant more than 15,000 trees. The number of professionals assigned to the service will double, going from 59 to 113, while the number of vehicles and machinery will triple, from 25 to 68 units. The contract covers the maintenance of 362 public spaces, including parks, gardens, squares, sports areas and play areas, totaling more than 2 million square metres, which represents an increase of 800,000 square metres compared to the areas currently maintained, which amount to 1.2 million square metres.

The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, along with the Councilor for Parks and Gardens, Concha Sala, and the head of the company awarded the contract, Manuel Pérez, presented the municipality's new Green Area and Open Space Maintenance Service this morning. With this contract, the City Council will improve the maintenance and upkeep of its green spaces with a significant increase in human and material resources.

The number of professionals assigned to the service has doubled, from 59 to 113, while the number of vehicles and machinery has tripled, from 25 to 68 units.

This fleet will include light, heavy, and special-class equipment, allowing for greater coverage, faster response times, and overall improved service.

The company Actúa, part of the Hozono Global Group, has been selected to manage this service for the next 15 years, after submitting the highest-rated bid by the City Council's contracting committee. The new service has a budget of €111 million.

The contract covers the maintenance of 362 public spaces, including parks, gardens, squares, sports areas, and playgrounds, totaling more than 2 million square meters.

This represents an increase of 800,000 square meters compared to the current area of 1.2 million square meters.

The service not only includes the maintenance of existing green areas, but also improvement and adaptation actions that will allow for the modernization of facilities, the renewal of plant species, and the adaptation of spaces to meet accessibility, safety, and sustainability criteria.

The service also has an Immediate Action Plan for rapid intervention in the most deteriorated areas, including planting seasonal flowers, adapting roads, roundabouts, and access points to the city, and supplying and installing ornamental planters and flowerpots.

A permanent Technical Office will also be launched to coordinate the work, along with a Citizen Service Point and an informational web portal where incidents can be reported and which will provide real-time data on the status and progress of the work.

A commitment to sustainability and technology

Another new feature will be the incorporation of computerized management systems, which will allow tasks to be controlled and planned more efficiently.

This tool will facilitate incident tracking, resource control, and decision-making based on up-to-date data.

The service will also incorporate innovative software for managing green areas, trees, furniture, and children's play areas, as well as a fleet tracking system that will allow vehicles to be tracked in real time.

In terms of the environment, the contract emphasizes sustainability by incorporating electric vehicles, energy-efficient machinery, and irrigation control technologies such as humidity sensors and remote management, which will help optimize water use and reduce the energy impact.

The service will also include maintenance irrigation, as well as the upkeep of all ornamental fountains in the municipality, and preventive species maintenance programs to protect and promote biodiversity.

In addition to maintenance work, the contract includes improvement and modernization projects, including the renewal of plant species, the updating of facilities, the adaptation of green spaces to meet accessibility, safety, and sustainability criteria, and the creation of fourteen new parks and gardens.

New green areas

The new contract includes the creation of more than 90,000 square meters of new green areas that will contribute to improving environmental quality and public well-being.

Among the main projects are the new parks planned in:

- Parquemar, with 6,500 m2.
- Gran Canaria, with 5,878 m2.
- Sector 25, with 70,000 m2.
- Othello, with 3,800 m2.
- Tirso de Molina, with 6,500 m2.
- José Lorca with 760 m2.

The new contract also includes the planting of more than 15,000 trees in the coming years.

The new service launches with a clear vision for the future: transforming the urban environment through landscape care, putting people at the center, and promoting environmentally friendly management.

With this initiative, Torrevieja City Council reaffirms its commitment to a greener, healthier, and more livable city.
