Torrevieja puts out to tender two major port projects for almost 15 million euros.
The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, reports that the Local Government Board (LGB) yesterday approved the tendering of two strategic projects for the modernization and improvement of the Port of Torrevieja: the secondary electrification of the port area and the remodeling of the fishing dock cliff and the development of the area surrounding Muelle Mínguez.
SECONDARY ELECTRIFICATION OF THE PORT ENCLOSURE
This project, with a base tender budget of 8,935,683 euros (VAT included) and an execution period of 11 months, although the possibility of reducing the period by a maximum of 15 weeks with respect to the initially planned period has been foreseen as a scoring scale in the tender, which will allow shortening the execution periods by 4 months with respect to the initially planned, regardless of whether partial deliveries of the work may occur, in order to establish a gradual opening to public use of the fairgrounds, in accordance with the guidelines that, at all times, the Torrevieja City Council establishes.
The work includes the completion of underground pipelines, the installation of the fairgrounds' electrical panels and medium- and low-voltage lines, public lighting, and control and protection systems to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the new facility. It will provide a functional space for the fairgrounds and other multipurpose venues, as well as providing sufficient space for the craft vendor booths. This will complete the remodeling of this entire space, including repaving, street furniture, equipment, and landscaping.
In this regard, the Government team wishes to state that the possibility of improvements to landscape and urban integration has been included as an aspect to be assessed, in order to be able to put forward such proposals, provided they are compatible with maintaining the planned needs program within the fairgrounds, particularly those relating to the fair facilities and craft vendors.
REMODELING OF THE FISHING PIER CLIFF AND URBANIZATION OF THE MÍNGUEZ PIER SURROUNDINGS
The second project approved at JGL has a base tender budget of €5,845,298 (VAT included) and a five-month execution period. The project includes the complete renovation of the fishing pier's cliff to improve its operational and safety conditions, as well as the urbanization of the entire area surrounding Muelle Mínguez, creating a more accessible and organized space that optimizes both port activity and public use.
The works include the demolition and reconstruction of pavements, the renovation of service networks, the installation of new lighting and street furniture, and the improvement of pedestrian and vehicle accessibility. Furthermore, the reduction in construction timeframes will be assessed as an improvement, similar to that of the fairgrounds. In this case, the maximum reduction in timeframe is six weeks, and all of this, as in the previous case, allows for the possibility of partial delivery of the work.
With this project, the Government Team plans to create a new promenade that will run from the current port entrance and, passing through the rehabilitation work around the Mínguez dock, will continue with a promenade along the port's first line, with the intention of connecting it to the Levante breakwater in what is expected to become a new iconic landmark of our city.
A STRATEGIC INVESTMENT FOR THE FUTURE OF THE PORT OF TORREVIEJA
Eduardo Dolón stated that " these projects represent a decisive commitment to modernizing the port, strengthening its role as an economic and tourism engine, and making it more sustainable and competitive. These projects, in addition to improving port infrastructure, will have a positive impact on the quality of life of our residents and on the image of the city."
It's worth noting that both projects are part of the strategic investment plan promoted by Torrevieja City Council, which includes projects in the city's main urban spaces and public facilities. Following the tender process, construction is expected to begin before the end of 2025.
Finally, the Mayor of Torrevieja announced that these two tenders will complete the redevelopment of the entire area known as the port landfill. The tenders for the finishing works around the Levante Dike walkway and the acquisition of the craft vendors' stalls are pending. These will be tendered shortly, so that the entire complex will be operational by 2026.
