The Department of Parks and Gardens begins pruning more than 5,500 palm trees in Torrevieja.
A few days ago, a comprehensive palm tree pruning campaign began in Torrevieja. It will continue through September, October, and early November, given the number of palm trees in the city's green spaces.
In total, 5,526 palm trees will be treated throughout the municipality. The majority of these trees are Washingtonia robusta, with 3,833, although other species present in the city will also be treated, such as Phoenix dactylifera, Phoenix canariensis, and some Washingtonia filifera.
These specialized jobs require the use of specific machinery, appropriate materials, and advanced pruning techniques that cannot be performed in the routine day-to-day maintenance carried out by the Torrevieja Department of Parks and Gardens' green areas and public spaces contractor teams.
To ensure efficient and orderly development, work teams conduct a progressive tour throughout the municipality, carrying out planned interventions in different areas until all the specimens are complete.
The Councilor for Parks and Gardens, Concha Sala, highlighted the importance of this project, which is now underway thanks to the milder temperatures and, consequently, improved working conditions. She also noted that this is a significant initiative that affects a large part of the local landscape and is already adapting to the palm trees located in the areas where the ornamental lighting for patron saint festivals and Christmas is installed.
