Torrevieja City Council, through its Department of Sports, has approved the call for scholarships for local athletes for 2025, with a total budget of €65,000 . This initiative seeks to support and encourage the participation of the city's athletes in federated competitions, rewarding those who have achieved outstanding results in official championships .

The purpose of these grants is twofold: first, to encourage the special dedication required by competitive sports and, second, to facilitate the permanence of athletes in local clubs, thus contributing to their training and preparation . The scholarships will cover the 2024/2025 season or the 2025 annual period . The application period is from October 17 to 30, once the call for applications has been published in the Official Provincial Gazette (BOP) .

Requirements for applicants

Non-professional athletes who demonstrate a promising future in performance sports and meet the following key requirements may apply for these scholarships:

Categories and Age

The grants are aimed at athletes in the children's, cadet, youth, junior, and senior categories, aged under 35 years (born in 1990 or later) . The age limit does not apply to athletes with a recognized disability of 33% or more, or to those who, having exceeded this age, can demonstrate specific results in national or international Olympic sports competitions .

Residence and Connection

Applicants must be registered in Torrevieja or have a connection with sports organizations in the city during the current season and at least the previous two . Local athletes whose sport does not have a club registered in the city or competes in a lower category are also eligible .

Sporting Merits

Achievements such as medals in regional, national, European, world, or Olympic championships, participation in national or regional teams, or participation in high-performance or sports development centers , among other merits specified in the rules, will be considered. For evaluation, it is essential to present a certificate from the corresponding federation certifying the results .

Compatibility and Exclusions

These scholarships are compatible with other grants awarded by any public administration . Athletes who have been permanently sanctioned for doping or who are not up to date with their tax obligations are not eligible to receive them .
