Holy Week in Torrevieja, declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest
This morning, the Regional Minister of Tourism of the Valencian Government, Marian Cano, announced that this week she signed the declaration of Holy Week in Torrevieja as a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest in the Valencian Community . This declaration will be published in the coming days in the Official Gazette of the Valencian Government (DOGV). This recognition of one of the city's most important and popular celebrations, in which hundreds of Torrevieja residents work throughout the year, consolidates a celebration that combines history, faith, and heritage, and which attracts thousands of visitors each year.
"By declaring Torrevieja's Holy Week a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest, we recognize the historical, cultural, and touristic value of a celebration that is part of the identity of Torrevieja and the Valencian Community," Cano emphasized. "Torrevieja's Holy Week not only attracts visitors every year, but also boosts the local economy and strengthens the promotion of our destination nationally and internationally."
The application was submitted on August 11th, and after reviewing the supporting documentation, the Regional Ministry granted the property a very positive assessment, citing its social roots and its ability to attract thousands of visitors each year.
Holy Week in Torrevieja has been declared a Festival of Provincial Tourist Interest since 2011, and with this new resolution, the Generalitat recognizes its regional significance, highlighting its consolidation as a celebration of great tourist, social, and cultural appeal.
The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, congratulated the Junta Mayor de Cofradías (Major Board of Brotherhoods) "for their dedication, commitment, and constant efforts to make our Holy Week a unique event each year, full of emotion, faith, and tradition." He also thanked the Regional Minister of Tourism, Marian Cano, and the President of the Generalitat Valenciana (Valencian Regional Government), Carlos Mazón, for granting this recognition, which highlights the good work, grandeur, and uniqueness of our Holy Week.
The mayor concluded by stating that this is "a well-deserved recognition of the work and passion of so many people who are part of it, and which places Torrevieja in a prominent place within the cultural and religious heritage of the Valencian Community."
