The extraordinary lighting for the Patron Saint and Christmas festivities will reach 70 streets, squares, promenades and several residential areas.
A large part of the extraordinary ornamental lighting for the 2025 Patron Saint and Christmas Festivals has already been installed in the city's streets and squares, with work expected to continue in the coming days leading up to the important date of the lighting festival, which this year will be on the afternoon of November 22nd.
The councilor responsible for this service, Concha Sala, has announced the most important details of the installation of the festive lighting, carried out by the contracted company "Iluminaciones Granja SL." The installation will consist of more than 500 lights, including arches and other elements, reaching 70 streets, squares, avenues, and residential areas throughout the municipality of Torrevieja.
One of this year's main new features will be the installation of a large snowman, which will be open to visitors, in Miguel Hernández Square. It's safe to say that the children's Christmas atmosphere will be prominent in this square, as, for the first time, two arches will be located nearby on Clemente Gosálvez Street. These arches were awarded prizes in the 1st School Drawing Competition for the design of ornamental Christmas lighting elements, which was held last May by the Department of Public Lighting.
A new 20-meter-tall Christmas tree with cutting-edge RGB LED technology will be erected on the Juan Aparicio Seafront Promenade next to the Monument to the Man of the Sea. This tree will be open to visitors. Three other 15-meter-tall trees will also be erected in the Plaza de Encarnación Puchol in La Mata, Plaza de Oriente, which will be open to visitors. Once again, a large star of illusion will be lit on the façade of the Parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and a monumental Christmas tree will also be placed at the entrance to the "Tavi y Carmona" Sports Palace. In addition, an 8-meter-tall tree will be installed in the Plaza de La Madera.
The largest tree will be the natural one located at the entrance to the port area, next to Bar La Marina. Its 22-meter height will be decorated with 20,000 warm-hued LED bulbs.
Other main streets to be illuminated, which have become a focal point for hundreds of people who visit them each year, will include the most central pedestrian streets, Calle Concepción and its cross streets, Calle Fotógrafos Darblade and Calle Canónigo Torres. All of them will feature a special design with a ceiling of light formed by more than 14 kilometers of garland and more than 100,000 micro bulbs from which more than 150 moving stars of light will hang, along with other elements that will enhance this innovative decoration.
Other new features that are being incorporated into the 2025 festive lighting project include the installation of four arches in the new "hippie" area on Avenida de la Estación - Vía Verde, and "lamppost" arches will also be installed in the area of the Eras de la Sal and Fábrica del Hielo grounds, which will join the more than fifty allegories that are placed on Gregorio Marañón and Desiderio Rodríguez avenues.
This year, the cornices of the façade of the Church of the Immaculate Conception will also be decorated with their traditional display, featuring nearly 150,000 warm white micro LED bulbs. After a few years of absence, the façade of the Parish Church of Our Lady of the Rosary in La Mata will be illuminated again, with a new and contemporary design. Various streets and squares in La Mata will also be illuminated.
Likewise, the procession route of the city's patron saint, La Purísima Concepción, will be decorated again with 56 exclusive arches, with banners bearing the image of the patron saint, which will be replaced by Christmas arches at the end of the patron saint festivities.
The lighting will reach locations far from the city center, such as the La Siesta, Torreta Florida, Los Balcones, and Aguas Nuevas neighborhoods. Approximately 1,000 meters of LED light strips will illuminate 3,000 bulbs, along with at least one Merry Christmas sign in each of the aforementioned neighborhoods. In the La Siesta neighborhood, the greetings will be in English and Spanish.
The investment cost included in the current contract is 387,467 euros, plus VAT.
