EL ALCALDE PRESENTA LA CREACIÓN DE LA NUEVA ZONA VERDE DEL SECTOR 25 QUE COMENZARÁ A EJECUTARSE EL PRÓXIMO 11 DE NOVIEMBRE
The new park will cover an area of 70,000 square meters and will involve an investment of 5.4 million euros, making it one of the largest in the municipality.

This morning, the project for the new green space that the Torrevieja City Council will create in Sector 25 was presented. It will be approved tomorrow, Friday, by the Local Governing Board. The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón; the Councilor for Parks and Gardens, Concha Sala; the municipal engineer, Juanfran Pérez; and the manager of Actúa, Manuel Iván Pérez, provided details of this new green space, which, with 70,000 square meters and a length of 900 linear meters, is one of the largest in the municipality of Torrevieja and the largest to be developed under the municipal green space contract.

The plot is located north of the Bella Vista, Vista Sal, and Salinas Beach residential complexes. Its boundaries are: North and East: National Highway N-332. South and West: Avenida Asociación Víctimas del Terrorismo (Association of Victims of Terrorism Avenue). South and East: Calle César Mateo Cid (César Mateo Cid Street). North and West: Calle Cecilio Gallego Alaminos (Cecilio Gallego Alaminos Street).

The project, with a total budget of €5.4 million (including VAT) and an estimated completion time of 12 months, envisions a comprehensive intervention combining landscaping, sports, leisure, and biodiversity. The creation of this area will be carried out by Actúa Servicios Medioambiente SL, the company awarded the contract for the Maintenance of Green Areas and Open Spaces.

Eduardo Dolón has announced that the start of construction is scheduled for November 11th, so it will be fully completed by Christmas 2026.

A LARGE GREEN SPACE THAT WILL BE INTEGRATED WITH THE RESIDENTIAL AREAS

This is a large green space that will seamlessly integrate with the surrounding residential areas, transforming into a semi-urban and iconic park. It will bring environmental and landscape improvements, creating accessible and inclusive entrances.

The park will have a main entrance in the southern area, where a wellness area will be created, and three secondary vehicular entrances: one to the north of the park and the other two along its perimeter, consisting of small roads that are extensions of Ginés Saura Sánchez and Rosa Díez González streets. All of these will be arranged around a large central promenade and a circular path connecting the different themed areas. These include:

• Children's areas, with games and a large zip line.

• Children's road safety education park for boys and girls.

• Areas for calisthenics, gymnastics and outdoor sports courts (3x3 basketball court and mini futsal court).

• Picnic area, dog park (agility) and rest kiosk.

• State-of-the-art self-cleaning toilets, which will be the first to be installed in a public park in Torrevieja.

COMMITMENT TO HIGH-QUALITY URBAN FACILITIES

The park's design prioritizes high-quality urban amenities, including recycled furniture, LED lighting, and an extensive network of natural and sustainable paving materials, such as cobblestones, gravel, sand, compacted earth, and rubber in the play areas. Drinking fountains will also be distributed, particularly in the children's play areas.

The Councillor for Parks and Gardens, Concha Sala, indicated that this large area will initially have shade sails and other artificial elements that will gradually be replaced by the natural shade provided by the trees.

Specific objectives for this green space include increasing climate comfort and local biodiversity; prioritizing Mediterranean/xerophytic species and permeable roofs; optimizing water and energy use (efficient irrigation and remote management); and ensuring universal accessibility and safety.

PLANTING OF MORE THAN 23,000 SHRUB PLANTS

The landscape proposal includes the planting of more than 23,000 shrub units and around 700 unique trees and shrubs, as well as containing 95 palm trees, creating an environment of great plant richness and environmental value.

Among the selected species are olive trees, holm oaks, carob trees, mastic trees, cypress trees, Aleppo pines, grevilleas, mulberry trees and plane trees, along with a careful selection of Mediterranean shrubs and aromatic plants — such as lavenders, rosemary, sages and thyme — that will promote biodiversity and the ecological balance of the environment.

The Sector 25 park was created with an inclusive and sustainable vision. Its positive impact is projected in four dimensions:

Social : a place for intergenerational encounters and civic coexistence.

Health : promotion of physical activity and outdoor life.

Environmental : increase in green space and improvement of urban biodiversity.

Economic : revaluation of the environment and reinforcement of the tourist appeal of the area.

The creation of this large green space in Sector 25 represents a strategic investment in well-being, sustainability, and urban quality, solidifying Torrevieja's position as a city committed to its environment and to improving the quality of life for its residents. This new park will undoubtedly become a green and social landmark for the city and the entire region.
