Torrevieja pays homage to Saint Anthony, patron saint of animals, with the traditional blessing of pets and an institutional visit to the Municipal Shelter

The parish priest of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, José Antonio Gea, will travel to the Municipal Shelter to bless the dogs and cats of the center.

As is tradition, Torrevieja celebrates the feast of Saint Anthony Abbot, patron saint of animals, this weekend. This year's program combines the traditional blessing of pets at the parishes with an official visit to the Municipal Animal Shelter, reaffirming the municipality's commitment to animal welfare.

Therefore, this coming Saturday, January 17th, the Feast of Saint Anthony Abbot, at 11:00 a.m., a visit will be made to the Municipal Animal Shelter. This event will be held in conjunction with the parish priest of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, José Antonio Gea, who will travel to the municipal facilities to bless the dogs and cats at the center, focusing on the protection and adoption of these animals.

On Saturday, January 17th, at 6:00 PM, a blessing of pets will take place at the doors of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. According to Councilor Concha Sala, a designated entrance and exit lane will be created by installing fencing to manage the flow of people with their pets until the blessing, which will be given by the parish priest, José Antonio Gea. Mass will follow at 7:30 PM. Also at 6:00 PM, at the doors of the Parish Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a blessing of animals will be performed by its parish priest, Aurelio Ferrándiz.

Finally, in La Mata, the blessing of the animals will take place on Sunday, January 18th. It will be at 1:00 PM, after Mass, at the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary, officiated by the parish priest, Francisco Javier Parreño. The town council invites all residents to participate in this traditional event, reminding them of the importance of maintaining safety measures and keeping animals under control during the gathering.
