Commemorative events for the 40th Anniversary of the death of Maestro Francisco Casanovas have been presented

The Councillor for Culture, Antonio Quesada, together with the president of the Musical and Cultural Association “Francisco Casanovas Tallardá”, José Francisco Sánchez, and accompanied by Adrián Barbudo, manager of MPC-Group, have announced the events that will take place throughout the year 2026 in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the death of Maestro Francisco Casanovas.

The commemorative events will begin with the exhibition “A Life Like a Movie”, dedicated to Maestro Casanovas and curated by Juan Francisco Cayuelas, which is currently on display at the ESMUC in Barcelona from January 12th to February 18th.

The program continues on Saturday, March 7, at 7:00 p.m., with the lecture “Casanovas and his 125th Anniversary,” which will take place at the Casino Cultural Society of Torrevieja. On Friday, July 3, at 8:00 p.m., the Municipal Theater will host the Casanovas Flute Orchestra Concert.

In the autumn, the musical tribute will continue with a concert by the Casanovas Orchestra, “The Eight Seasons Vivaldi/Piazzolla,” scheduled for Saturday, October 17, at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal Theatre, featuring violinist Heorhii Sokolov as soloist. The commemorative events will conclude with a closing ceremony at the Torrevieja Cemetery on Saturday, December 13, at 12:00 p.m.

The association's president, José F. Sánchez, highlighted the excellent state of the organization, founded last year to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Maestro Casanovas's birth. It now boasts over 350 members and the honorary presidency of Maestro Zubin Mehta. Sánchez also mentioned the possibility that the renowned conductor will meet with the association next February in Barcelona, coinciding with his visit to the exhibition dedicated to his mentor.

He also recalled the success achieved by the Casanovas Flute Orchestra and the Casanovas Orchestra in their inaugural concerts in 2025, some of which featured the honorary conductor Enrique García Asensio. Finally, he announced that this Sunday, January 25, at 12:00 noon, the Torrevieja Municipal Theatre will host the first concert of the Casanovas Orchestra as part of the Family Concerts series.
