Torrevieja City Council and Salins are making progress on the agreement for the rehabilitation of the old La Química factories and their opening to public use
This afternoon, the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, and the general manager of Salins España, Óscar de Vicente, demonstrated a firm commitment from both parties towards the implementation of the institutional and technical collaboration agreement that will allow the start of specific actions for the effective launch of the project to rehabilitate the old La Química industrial complex, with the aim of making it available for public use and establishing a bathing area in the pink lagoon of Torrevieja.
Eduardo Dolón stated that they are currently working on drafting the agreement that will govern the commitments and obligations of the parties involved, by the legal services of both the Torrevieja City Council and the Salins company, with the aim that once these are resolved in the coming days, the agreement will be approved by the Local Governing Board.
The project will involve an investment of €11.1 million by the City Council, primarily focused on preserving the extensive industrial heritage of the salt flats and enabling the creation of a bathing and thalassotherapy area. This will be achieved while fully respecting the environmental and heritage preservation of the Torrevieja Lagoon area and ensuring complete compatibility with the industrial activity carried out by the New Leasing Company of the Torrevieja Salt Flats. In this regard, the mayor highlighted studies conducted by the University of Alicante, the Complutense University of Madrid, and the Carlos III University of Madrid, which support the health benefits of the waters and mud of the Torrevieja Lagoon.
Finally, the mayor of Torrevieja wanted to thank the Salins group for their level of commitment to the project, as well as the company's full willingness to complete the approval and signing procedures for the collaboration agreement.
Once formally signed by both parties, it will be sent to the General Directorate of State Heritage for final validation.
