Torrevieja is showcasing at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) one of the most important urban transformation processes in its history, based on a global strategy that starts from its identity to adapt it to the new challenges of the city and improve the quality of life of residents and visitors.

Through the showcase provided by FITUR, Eduardo Dolón, Mayor of Torrevieja, the Councillor for Tourism, Rosario Martínez and the Director General of Tourism, Israel Martínez, accompanied by the First Vice President of the Generalitat, Sussana Camarero, have presented to professionals from the tourism sector, institutions and media in the Central Plaza of the Valencian Community Stand the profound renewal that the municipality is experiencing, a transformation that maintains as fundamental axes the sea, the natural environment and the character of Torrevieja, and which is materialized in strategic projects spread throughout the city.

THE PORT, THE COASTLINE AND HERITAGE AS ENGINES OF CHANGE

One of the most outstanding projects presented at FITUR is the renovation of the Port of Torrevieja, an action that opens the port to the city and turns it into a new hub for leisure, dining and entertainment, designed to be enjoyed throughout the year, with a planned investment of 94.5 million euros.

On the coast, the redevelopment of the Playa de los Locos promenade will improve accessibility and create a large pedestrian area by the sea, integrating respectfully with the environment, with an estimated investment of 10.1 million euros.

The urban transformation also focuses on historical and cultural heritage. The Eras de la Salafronta site is undergoing a comprehensive project that includes the new Auditorium, the Sea and Salt Museum, and the rehabilitation of the Ice Factory as a Tourist Office, with a planned investment of €31.1 million, making it one of the city's major cultural projects.

NATURE, WELL-BEING AND SUSTAINABILITY

The city model that Torrevieja is presenting at FITUR also prioritizes nature and well-being. The enhancement of the Lagunas Natural Park and the rehabilitation of the old chemical plant in the salt flats, designated as a bathing area, combine tourism development and environmental protection, with an estimated investment of €11.1 million.

REVITALIZATION OF THE CITY CENTER AND LOCAL BUSINESSES

The city center is another key element of this transformation. The renovation of the La Plasa building and the redevelopment of its surrounding commercial area are revitalizing local businesses, improving accessibility, and creating more attractive spaces for residents and visitors, with a total investment of €9.6 million.

EDUCATION, TALENT AND FUTURE

The commitment to knowledge is embodied in the new University Headquarters in the city center, a facility that integrates university and business, with capacity for 430 people. This project, which will become operational in the first quarter of the year, represents a total investment of 4.8 million euros, reinforcing the attraction of young talent and economic diversification.

SPORT AND QUALITY OF LIFE

Sport is another pillar of the strategy that Torrevieja is presenting at FITUR. Over the last four years, the City Council has invested 20 million euros in sports facilities, including the new María Jesús Viuda Pavilion, improvements to the Nelson Mandela Football Field, and the renovation of the racquet sports area, with new padel and fronton courts.
