The activities planned for Tree Day 2026 have been presented
The Councillor for Education of Torrevieja City Council, Ricardo Recuero, along with the Councillor for the Environment, Antonio Vidal, the Councillor for Parks and Gardens, Concha Sala, the Director-Conservator of the La Mata-Torrevieja Lagoons Natural Park, Francisco Martínez, and the Deputy Manager of AGAMED, Gemma Cruz, presented this morning the planting and regeneration activities that will take place to celebrate Tree Day 2026. These activities, which began today, Monday, January 26, and will continue in this area until next Friday, January 30, were undertaken by schoolchildren from all educational centers in Torrevieja.
This educational and environmental activity aims to teach young people about the importance of ecological regeneration and planting criteria, making the Torrevieja project one of the most participatory and important in all of Spain, according to the director-conservator of the Natural Park, Francisco Martínez, and which also has workers and brigades from other natural parks in the area.
With a forecast of 800-900 plants, the nearly 1,000 students from the 14 schools will travel to a planting area in the Natural Park, where they will plant native species such as kermes oak, mastic, tamarisk, lavender, juniper, blackthorn, dwarf palm, santolina, Aleppo pine, buckthorn, rosemary and carob.
For this activity, AGAMED carried out the preparation and adaptation of the planting area, located in the upper part of the Park, as well as the supplemental irrigation and plant protection. Furthermore, last week the 4th grade students participating in the planting received informational talks on how to carry out this type of planting and the importance of regenerating and creating new forest cover in a natural environment like Torrevieja Park.
