The City Council is promoting the comprehensive modernization of the 181 bus stops for the new urban transport service.
The Local Governing Board of Torrevieja City Council approved this morning the project for the implementation, accessibility improvements, renovation, and removal of bus stops as part of the municipality's new urban transport service. This action will adapt the network to the new route planning, improve the functionality of the infrastructure, and guarantee compliance with current accessibility and mobility regulations, in accordance with Decree 65/2019 of the Valencian Government on Accessibility and Law 6/2011 on Mobility of the Valencian Community.
The project consists of defining the civil works and new model of canopies to be placed at each of the stops that the new public transport service will have, whose contract is currently pending the Contracting Board proposing a contractor and the City Council requesting the documentation.
The government team intends to begin the gradual renovation of bus stops, coinciding with the start of the transport contract's implementation.
A NETWORK ADAPTED TO THE NEW TRANSPORT CONTRACT
The current urban transport network is undergoing a renewal process due to the implementation of the new concession, which includes the reorganization of routes, the optimization of service, and increased frequencies. As a result, it will be necessary to eliminate certain stops that are becoming obsolete, construct new ones, and completely adapt the remaining stops.
The scope of action covers the entire municipality of Torrevieja, including high and medium density urban areas, low density residential areas, natural park surroundings and beaches, adapting each intervention to the specific characteristics of the environment.
181 STOPS WITH FIVE DIFFERENT TYPES
The project includes work on a total of 181 stops, distributed across five types:
Type 0 : 5 stops
Type 1 : 4 stops
Type 2 : 42 stops
Type 3 : 81 stops
Type 4 : 49 stops
Type 0 and Type 1 bus stops will be 35 meters long, allowing two buses to stop simultaneously. They will include shelters with sun protection, passenger information systems (bus information displays), benches, handrails, and advertising panels. Type 0 stops will also include a self-cleaning restroom.
Type 2 stops will be 20 meters long and will have a 4-meter canopy with complete amenities. Type 3 stops, at 15 meters, will have the same amenities. Type 4 stops will include information totems with a bus information system and, in some cases, benches for passengers.
All actions will guarantee an accessible pedestrian route 1.80 meters wide, the installation of tactile paving and the appropriate connection with existing urban networks.
PLANNED ACTIONS
The works will include specific demolitions for the execution of new paving, curb cuts at pedestrian crossings and channeling trenches; dismantling and replacement of street furniture and signage; adaptation of registers to the new level; manual or mechanical excavation depending on the existing services; civil works for foundations and installation of equipment; as well as the placement of new canopies and totems.
SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT AND DIGITALIZATION
The new concession also includes the incorporation of vehicles powered by non-fossil energies and equipped with state-of-the-art technology, reinforcing the municipal commitment to sustainable, efficient and environmentally friendly mobility.
With this action, the Torrevieja City Council is taking a decisive step towards a more accessible, modern public transport model adapted to the real needs of citizens, strengthening urban cohesion and improving the quality of life throughout the municipality.
