It is being held to mark International Women's Day and will take place on March 5th, at 7pm, at the Torrevieja Casino

Under the title “Creators and Protagonists: Female Authorship and Representation in Television Series,” the University of Alicante's Torrevieja campus, in collaboration with the Torrevieja City Council's Department of Equality, Women, and Gender Policies, presents this talk, which will take place on March 5th at 7:00 p.m. in the Torrevieja Casino. It will be given by Patricia Palomares-Sánchez, a predoctoral researcher in the Department of Communication and Social Psychology at the University of Alicante.

Television series are now one of the most influential ways to tell stories and construct narratives about our society. In recent years, Spanish productions available on platforms like Netflix, HBO Max, and Movistar+ have significantly increased the presence of female characters. But there's a reality that often goes unnoticed: who is creating these stories, and how does it affect what we see on screen?

This talk, organized by the University of Alicante's Equality Department in collaboration with Jesús Segarra-Saavedra, in commemoration of International Women's Day (March 8th), invites participants to explore the role of women as creators and protagonists in Spanish television series. Through an analysis of recent productions, the talk will reveal how authorship influences character development and the portrayal of themes such as motherhood, gender-based violence, and female leadership.

This session, open to the public, aims to spark curiosity and critical reflection on how fiction not only reflects our society but also has the power to transform it. It's an opportunity to ask ourselves why it matters who tells the stories and how those perspectives can change what we see and experience.

Entry is free until capacity is reached.
