The mayor of Torrevieja inaugurates the ceramics exhibition "Chakras: art and energy" at the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Center
The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, along with the Councillor for Senior Citizens, Inmaculada Montesinos, and several other members of the governing council, inaugurated the ceramics exhibition “Chakras: Art and Energy” this morning at the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Centre. The exhibition features works created by students of the Ceramics Workshop taught by Torrevieja native Conchi Vaquero, as part of the city's program of activities for senior citizens. The exhibition will remain open to the public until April 5th, with free admission.
The exhibition presents a carefully curated selection of ceramic pieces created by workshop participants, inspired by the symbolism of the chakras . These chakras are represented through different colors, shapes, and decorative elements that evoke the body's energy centers and their relationship to balance and personal well-being. Each piece reflects the participants' personal interpretation of these concepts, resulting in a diverse collection that combines creativity, symbolism, and artistic sensibility.
The exhibited works include decorative bowls, ceramic plaques, sculptures, and ornamental pieces , all handcrafted during the course. Participants have explored various traditional ceramic techniques, such as hand-modeling, mold making, clay engraving, glazing, and the application of ceramic pigments to achieve the colors associated with each chakra.
The Ceramics Workshop, part of the activities offered by the Department for Senior Citizens, runs throughout the year and brings together a large group of older adults interested in learning and perfecting artisanal techniques. In addition to technical instruction, the workshop serves as a space for artistic expression, personal development, and social interaction , where participants can share experiences, stimulate creativity, and maintain an active cultural life.
During the opening ceremony, workshop instructor Conchi Vaquero highlighted the students' commitment and enthusiasm, noting that many participants were introduced to ceramics for the first time through this municipal activity. Throughout the course, students learn everything from the basic clay preparation to the firing and finishing processes, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the entire artisanal creation process.
Through this exhibition, the workshop participants showcase the work developed over the past few months, reflecting both the learning of artisanal techniques and the artistic evolution of each of the authors, who have been able to express in their works their own vision of the relationship between art, color and energy.
The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, emphasized during the inauguration the importance of these types of initiatives aimed at the city's senior citizens, highlighting the high quality of the exhibited works and praising the work developed during the course. The mayor also expressed his gratitude to the workshop instructor, Conchi Vaquero, and to the students for their dedication, stating that " behind each of these pieces are many hours of commitment and learning, which is why it's important to create spaces like this exhibition to recognize the work done and share it with the entire community."
The Department for Senior Citizens continues to support these types of cultural and educational initiatives that contribute to promoting active aging , fostering spaces for learning, creativity, and community among the municipality's older residents. These workshops, in addition to introducing artistic disciplines to this group, promote emotional well-being, social participation, and the exchange of experiences among participants.
