Approximately 1,300 people will camp this Holy Week in the "José Eduardo Gil Rebollo" municipal recreational area
The Parks and Gardens Department of Torrevieja City Council reports that a total of 1,261 people are expected to camp this Easter 2026 in the "José Eduardo Gil Rebollo" Municipal Recreation Area. They will occupy 428 tents, for which 116 applications have been submitted for permission to set up camp in this large green space located opposite La Mata Cemetery. The camping period will run from tomorrow, Saturday, March 28, until Monday, April 13, inclusive.
This large number of applications authorized by the Torrevieja City Council has increased again compared to previous years and confirms that this large green lung has become for more than a decade the main attraction for the people of Torrevieja to enjoy the traditional Easter "days" outdoors and in tents.
Permanent presence of Civil Protection and local police will increase their patrols in the area.
For the first time, the José Eduardo Gil Rebollo Municipal Recreation Area will have a permanent presence of volunteers from the Local Civil Protection Group, with a field station. Hours will be from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
The Councillor for Parks and Gardens has expressed her gratitude for the collaboration of the Department of Security in participating in the operation and has confirmed that, during the camping period, the Local Police will carry out patrol rounds in the areas surrounding the campsite, undertaking traffic control tasks if necessary, monitoring compliance with municipal ordinances and other regulations at the municipal or higher level, as well as preventive public safety measures.
The City Council's Green Team will also be present, working morning, afternoon, and evening shifts. This is all to ensure the best possible service for campers and the many visitors expected at the site during this period. The City Council has also provided a total of seven portable toilets, one of which is accessible.
COMPLIANCE WITH THE REGULATIONS FOR THE USE OF THE RECREATIONAL AREA
In the authorizations, which have been carried out through a general application on the electronic headquarters of the Torrevieja City Council ( torrevieja.sedelectronica.es ) attaching the responsible declaration that appears for this purpose, it is stated that they must comply with the regulations for the use of the Municipal Recreational Area, which includes that they are obliged to remove the waste produced during their stay, making use of the containers intended for this purpose.
Furthermore, they must take responsibility for any damage they may cause, refrain from making electrical connections to public lighting, and fully comply with the Ordinance Regulating Green Zones, Natural Areas, and Street Trees. This ordinance, with regard to the protection of vegetation, prohibits any manipulation of trees and plants, littering, and lighting fires.
The large pine forest in the "José Eduardo Gil Rebollo" Municipal Recreation Area was created thanks to reforestation efforts carried out over more than two decades by the Torrevieja City Council, numerous associations, local entities, and schools, primarily through the planting of pine trees and native species. This recreational area features restrooms, children's play areas, and picnic areas for the enjoyment of residents.
