Seminars on health and well-being are the focus of the new course at the UNED in Torrevieja, led by Dr. Rosa Cifuentes.
Under the title "From Cell to Life: Seminars on Health, Well-being, and Aging," the Open University program for seniors at the UNED Torrevieja Classroom will resume its activities next Tuesday, April 14. The six sessions of the course will be held at the temporary UNED Torrevieja location in the International Conservatory during April, at its usual time: from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Biologist and researcher Rosa Cifuentes, a medical doctor, has developed a thought-provoking program of seminars that will explore how our bodies work from the inside out: how genetic and environmental factors influence us throughout our lives, what happens when we get sick and age, and how to stay healthy and active. All presented from a scientific and accessible perspective.
Over these six sessions, we will explore topics such as genetics, immunity, nutrition, health, disease, and prevention in an engaging way. This program offers a deeper understanding of health, the body, and life through knowledge.
The sessions cover the following topics:
-1. Immune system. Why do we get sick? Why do we age? (Tuesday, April 14).
-2. Genetics and epigenetics. Are we programmed? (Wednesday, April 15).
-3. Health and illness in the different stages of life. (Tuesday, April 21).
-4. Delving deeper into cancer: biological basis and current advances. (Wednesday, April 22).
-5. Disease prevention: food as medicine. (Wednesday, April 29).
-6. Healthy aging: physical activity and emotional well-being. (Thursday, April 30).
The coordinator of the UNED (National University of Distance Education) in Torrevieja, Jesucristo Riquelme, highlights some of the objectives of this university extension course: “With the aim of maintaining an active life at any age, we will have the opportunity to learn how the immune system works, how to try to mitigate the risks of autoimmune diseases and allergies. We will also be presented on current advances in personalized diagnoses and treatments for cancerous tumors.”
Finally, emphasis will be placed on nutritional recommendations for a proper diet to combat illnesses resulting from poor nutrition, and on the essential role of physical exercise in promoting emotional well-being in older adults. All of this will be approached from a scientific perspective, focusing on personal balance and healthy relationships.
We continue to offer a select program of one course per month throughout the academic year and, for the time being, it is always free of charge."
