Torrevieja presents six new eurotaxis to reinforce the service in the city
The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, together with the councilor for Transport, Antonio Vidal, presented this morning in the Plaza Encarnación Puchol in La Mata six new eurotaxis that are already in operation in the city.
This addition is part of the process of expanding the number of eurotaxi licenses in the municipality. The six already in operation will be joined by another ten in the coming months: eight of them will be awarded soon, and the remaining two are currently being processed, bringing the total to 16 new licenses.
These vehicles, specially adapted for people with reduced mobility, represent a significant boost to the urban transport service, improving accessibility and ensuring better service for users' needs. These so-called Eurotaxis are accessible vehicles that meet the established technical requirements to facilitate the safe transport of people with reduced mobility, including wheelchair users.
With capacity for six, seven and nine passengers, they allow expanding the service capacity and offering a more efficient response to the existing demand in the municipality.
During the presentation, the Councillor for Transport highlighted that “we are finally responding to a demand we have had for many years in a service as important and essential as transport in our city,” also noting that “these six units are the vanguard of the eight new licenses that are being awarded and that will allow us to continue expanding the service in the coming months.”
The mayor explained that one of the main objectives of this measure is "to address a clear demand and complaint from citizens, since at certain times of the year finding a taxi is practically impossible," emphasizing that "with this increase in licenses we are going to significantly improve the service."
Furthermore, he emphasized that this initiative is the result of joint work between the City Council and the taxi sector of Torrevieja, noting that "we have worked hand in hand with the sector, which knows the service and its needs best, in order to provide a balanced response throughout the year."
The mayor also stressed the importance of making progress in accessibility, highlighting that "these types of vehicles allow us to respond to a population with greater mobility needs, meeting the requirements of universal accessibility and improving the quality of service."
With this initiative, the Torrevieja City Council continues to strengthen the public taxi service, improving its coverage and adapting it to the current needs of the population.
