New this year, a large-scale outdoor ballet barre session will be held at the Natural Pools.

The Councillor for Culture of Torrevieja City Council, Antonio Quesada, together with the director of the Municipal School of Academic Dance, Lola Morales, has presented the program for International Dance Day 2026, which will be celebrated from April 24 to 26 with a wide range of activities aimed at all audiences.

The program, organized by the Municipal Institute of Culture and the Municipal School of Academic Dance, includes training workshops, shows and outdoor activities with the aim of promoting participation and bringing dance closer to the public.

During the presentation, the Councillor for Culture, Antonio Quesada, highlighted that “we have prepared a series of performances, activities and workshops for all ages, with the aim of making dance accessible to all citizens and ensuring the greatest possible participation.”

One of the main focuses of the program is the contemporary dance and Spanish dance workshops, which will be held at the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Center and will be aimed at students from the age of nine.

As explained by the director of the Municipal Dance School, Lola Morales, “we have teachers who have trained in Torrevieja and who now develop their careers at a national and international level, which allows us to highlight the work done in our academies.”

The workshops will be led by Eva Mora and María Cabrera and will take place in different sessions and levels throughout the weekend.

On Saturday, April 25, the Municipal Theatre will host a performance by the Spanish Ballet of Murcia, directed by Carmen and Matilde Rubio, at 8:30 p.m.

On Sunday the 26th, one of the most anticipated events will take place: the traditional street dance marathon at the Juan Aparicio Promenade Natural Pools, which will feature the participation of 14 local dance academies.

New this year, the day will include a large ballet barre session open to the public, an initiative that, according to the organizers, is being very well received by the participating academies.

In addition, the day will begin with the reading of the International Dance Day manifesto, reinforcing the commemorative nature of the event.

The Department of Culture has emphasized the importance of these types of initiatives to highlight the work of local academies and promote citizen participation in the cultural life of the municipality.

The program for International Dance Day is becoming established, as well as one of the most participatory cultural events on the local calendar, bringing together students, teachers and the public around an artistic discipline that is constantly growing in the city.
