The Municipal Institute of Culture “Joaquín Chapaprieta” announces that Torrevieja will host a new edition of the “ SOL FILM FESTIVAL” , which will be held from July 9 to 12 at the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Center , with free admission until full capacity or by invitation , consolidating itself as one of the most outstanding cultural events in the city and reinforcing its projection of national and international short films.

This year's edition focuses on the theme " The role of women in the world of cinema," a theme that seeks to make women visible both in front of and behind the camera, promoting new narratives and spaces for reflection within the audiovisual sector, which will be addressed in a round table discussion during the event.

The festival continues to grow, incorporating new sections alongside the traditional fiction category, thus expanding its program to include documentaries and animation up to 59 minutes. Furthermore, this year the commitment to creators is strengthened through the introduction of cash prizes , directly supporting industry professionals.

As a new feature, the “SOL TORREVIEJA” Award is presented, aimed at short films from the Valencian Community , an initiative that seeks to promote local talent and give visibility to filmmakers from the region, linking their work with the name of the city and contributing to its cultural projection and putting the name of the city of Torrevieja on the map of Spanish cinema.

The selection process has already begun, and the festival boasts several high-caliber pre-selected titles . Among them are:

-“It Doesn’t Hurt Anymore” by David de Loro , starring Fernando Corral and David de Loro Jr., a film director from Torrevieja who proudly represents local talent

-“Polígono X” by Néstor López , starring Juan José Ballesta, a title with great potential and both filmmakers are winners of “Goya” awards

-“Berta” by Lucía Forner from Elche, which has accumulated more than 25 awards and more than 100 international selections

-“Poor Martian” , within the animation section, a highly outstanding work with a long history at festivals around the world

Registrations remain open until May 25th , and the complete rules can be found on the festival's official website: www.solfilmfestival.com or directly through the Festhome platform (where registrations are also made).

The organizers expect a high level of participation from both filmmakers and the public, inviting residents and visitors to enjoy a quality program in an accessible cultural environment.
