Torrevieja continues to consolidate its position as one of the fastest-growing cities in Spain and one of the most multicultural municipalities in the country. According to official municipal register data, updated as of Tuesday, May 12, the city now has a total of 113,453 registered inhabitants, of whom 56,126 are men and 57,327 are women.

These figures once again highlight the extraordinary demographic growth that Torrevieja has been experiencing in recent years, driven by both the arrival of new national and international residents, and which has a direct reflection in the intense administrative activity recorded daily by the Census and Statistics Department of the Torrevieja City Council.

IN JUST 3 MONTHS, 3,568 REGISTRATIONS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED IN THE MUNICIPAL REGISTER

The statistical data for the first quarter of 2026 reflect that between January and March a total of 3,568 registrations were processed in the municipal register, a figure that demonstrates the significant population increase that the city continues to experience.

Also, during the first quarter of the year there were 1,603 changes of address, 1,879 renewals of foreign citizens every two years and 357 confirmations of residence of long-term foreigners, in addition to 1,327 modifications of personal data and 554 address corrections.

The activity of the Council has also been reflected in the issuance of a total of 10,589 certificates of all types during the first three months of the year, consolidating the Census and Statistics area as one of the municipal services with the highest volume of public service in the Torrevieja council.

IN APRIL ALONE, 1,355 NEW REGISTRATIONS WERE PROCESSED IN THE MUNICIPAL REGISTER.

In April 2026, coinciding with the start of the extraordinary regularization process for undocumented immigrants, the municipal department maintained a particularly intense work pace. During that month, a total of 1,355 new residents were registered on the municipal census, reflecting the continued high rate of new arrivals to Torrevieja.

One of the most notable data points has been the enormous increase in the issuance of municipal certificates, reaching a total of 8,167 certificates issued, that is, 3,734 more than in the month of March, demonstrating the large influx of citizens who came to the municipal offices to manage administrative documentation related to the register.

The Census and Statistics Department highlights the significant effort being made by municipal staff to handle the growing volume of daily work, providing an agile and efficient service despite the continuous population increase that Torrevieja registers year after year.

These data once again confirm the demographic reality of Torrevieja, a city in constant growth and with high residential mobility, consolidating itself as one of the municipalities with the greatest population dynamism in the entire province of Alicante and the Valencian Community.

UKRAINE, COLOMBIA, RUSSIA AND THE UNITED KINGDOM, THE COUNTRIES WITH THE LARGEST NUMBER OF INTERNATIONAL RESIDENTS

Of the 113,453 inhabitants registered in Torrevieja, 51,432 people are of Spanish nationality, while more than 62,000 residents correspond to foreign citizens from dozens of countries around the world, making it an open, dynamic and fully multicultural city.

Among the nationalities with the greatest presence in Torrevieja, the Ukrainian population stands out, reaching 10,787 registered residents, followed by the Colombian population with 5,892 residents, the Russian population with 5,834, the British population with 4,671 and the Moroccan population with 3,743 citizens.

Likewise, Torrevieja maintains a significant presence of residents from numerous European countries such as Sweden (1,993), Romania (1,784), Belgium (1,646), Bulgaria (1,487), Italy (1,435), Germany (1,372) or Poland (1,361), consolidating its international and European character.

The population growth recorded in recent years has been particularly significant. In just a decade, Torrevieja has notably increased its number of inhabitants, placing it among the Spanish medium-sized cities with the highest percentage growth year after year. This demographic evolution also presents a significant challenge for the City Council, which continues to strengthen public services, infrastructure, and municipal resources to address the constant population increase.
