The Department of Equality of the Torrevieja City Council, led by Councilor Inmaculada Montesinos, has organized the campaign to prevent gender violence “PEPUKA”, an initiative aimed especially at the family sphere that promotes values education from childhood as a key tool to build a more equal society.

The central focus of this campaign is the story "Pepuka and the Monster Who Stole Her Smile," a landmark work both nationally and internationally in raising awareness and preventing gender-based violence in early childhood. Its author, Estela Moreno, an expert educator in this field, has received more than a dozen awards from various institutions and organizations, solidifying this project as a high-impact educational resource.

Pepuka's story, which has also been adapted into a short film made of plasticine, conveys a message of overcoming adversity and empowerment that has crossed borders, becoming a top-level educational tool to address a complex problem in an accessible and relatable way.

The campaign will arrive in Torrevieja with the presence of its author, who will headline a special event on Monday, June 1st, at the Carmen Jalón Municipal Library (C/ Chapaprieta, 39). Two free storytelling sessions for families will be held that afternoon, from 5:00 to 6:00 pm and from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.

With this initiative, the Department of Equality wants to emphasize the importance of educating from the earliest stages in respect, equality and the identification of behaviors that should be rejected from their origin, involving families and minors in a shared educational process.
