Viewers of the Cinecrítico program of the UNED of Torrevieja, at the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Center, have a date next Tuesday, May 26, at 6:30 p.m. with free admission until full capacity is reached, with one of the most anticipated film reviews of the cycle, entertaining and that makes us feel and think in a pleasant intellectual and sentimental way.

Released in 2014, and starring Robert Downey Jr., Robert Duvall, Vera Farmiga and Vincent D'Onofrio, The Judge , by American director David Dobkin, presents us with a difficult dilemma about forgiveness and redemption.

This feature film, with its intimate and forensic scope, maintains suspense from the first minute to the very end, throughout a surprising investigation. Hank Palmer (Robert Downey Jr.), a successful lawyer, returns to his childhood home after his mother's death. He then learns that his father (Robert Duvall), the town's judge and from whom he is emotionally estranged, is suspected of committing a crime. His decision to investigate the case gradually leads him to rebuild a broken relationship with his family. We see how the characters struggle to accept past mistakes and find a way to move forward. The son must forgive his father, who in turn must forgive himself and accept his mortality.

This is the eighth title of the current cycle, which began in October 2025 with Gorillas in the Mist , and, therefore, the last until the beginning of the next academic year, when there will be new proposals that will be announced on Wednesday, May 27, at the graduation gala of the students of the Open Classroom of the UNED of Torrevieja at the usual (provisional) headquarters of the international conservatory (Partida de La Loma, s/n).

To close the cycle, and to talk about the judge and judges, the UNED Classroom of Torrevieja has had the honorary participation of a magistrate: Judge María Teresa Martínez Soto, who will present the film and, after the viewing, will explain some intricacies of the plot, delve into the personality of the judicial authority in the film and moderate the debate with the public.
