Torrevieja City Council approves the project for the future "Tomás Ballester" Alzheimer's day center in the Local Governing Board
The Torrevieja City Council approved this morning in the Local Governing Board the project for the future Day Center for people with Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases "Tomás Ballester Herrera", presented by Francisco Juárez Pozuelo, thus taking a decisive step towards the realization of one of the most important socio-health infrastructures planned in the municipality.
The councillor secretary of the Local Governing Board, Federico Alarcón, has reported that the approved project contemplates a total investment of 10,856,623 euros (VAT included), which highlights the magnitude of a strategic action aimed at strengthening the healthcare network in the city.
The new center, promoted together with AFA TORREVIEJA, will be built in Sector 25 of the PGOU, opposite the Quirón Hospital, on a plot of almost 8,000 square meters, with an approximate built area of 2,700 square meters, designed to offer spacious, accessible and fully adapted spaces to the needs of the users.
THREE MAJOR FUNCTIONAL AREAS
The building will be structured into three main functional areas. First, the access and administration area, with more than 400 m², will include a reception area, offices, a multipurpose room for professionals, and an auditorium, among other spaces.
Secondly, the general services area, with approximately 500 m², will include a dining room, kitchen, laundry, staff changing rooms and essential logistics areas for the daily operation of the center.
Finally, the specialized care area, which exceeds 1,000 m², will concentrate the core care with activity rooms, rehabilitation, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, medical consultation, psychological office, as well as complementary services such as hairdressing and podiatry, in addition to adapted geriatric toilets and bathrooms.
The approval of this project represents a key step forward in responding to one of the main social demands of Torrevieja, allowing the creation of a specific resource for the care of people with neurodegenerative diseases, while also offering fundamental support to their families and caregivers.
A MODEL OF COMPREHENSIVE CARE WITH MODERN AND SAFE FACILITIES
The center's design prioritizes a comprehensive care model, with modern, safe facilities designed to promote stimulation, autonomy, and well-being for users at all stages of the disease.
With this approval, the Torrevieja City Council is taking a firm step towards a structural response to a reality that is increasingly present in the city. Alzheimer's not only affects those who suffer from it, but also completely transforms the lives of their families. This center is designed as a space for care, professional support, and also relief for those who have been facing this disease for years with enormous effort and, in many cases, with limited resources.
