Torrevieja City Council allocates 128,000 euros in direct aid to businesses in La Plasa to minimize the impact of the renovation works
The Torrevieja City Council has provisionally approved the granting of subsidies aimed at small businesses, micro-enterprises and small self-employed business owners of the "La Plasa" Municipal Market, with the aim of minimizing the economic impact derived from the renovation and remodeling works that are being carried out in these municipal facilities.
In total, the City Council will allocate 128,000 euros in direct aid to eight merchants and entrepreneurs of the municipal market, in a measure promoted by the Department of Commerce and Hospitality to support the continuity of commercial activity during the period of execution of the works.
The approved aid includes individual grants of €14,000 and €22,000, depending on the criteria established in the call for applications. Specifically, two of the beneficiaries will receive €22,000, while six other businesses will each receive €14,000.
The call for applications is part of the municipal strategy to support local businesses and aims to compensate for the economic difficulties that may arise from the modernization and comprehensive transformation works of "La Plasa", a project considered a priority to revitalize this historic commercial space in Torrevieja.
The award procedure has been carried out in accordance with state and regional regulations on subsidies, as well as the specific rules approved by the Torrevieja City Council for this line of aid.
Likewise, the report-proposed resolution states that the payment of the aid will be made by bank transfer and in advance of 50% of the amount granted, thus providing immediate liquidity to the beneficiary businesses.
The Councillor for Commerce and Hospitality, Rosario Martínez Chazarra, highlighted that “from the Torrevieja City Council we were clear that the transformation and modernization of 'La Plasa' had to be accompanied by real measures to support its merchants, because behind each stall there are families, employment and many years of effort and dedication to local commerce.”
Rosario Martínez also emphasized that “this direct aid demonstrates the city council’s commitment to one of Torrevieja’s most emblematic and beloved spaces. We are undertaking a historic renovation of the Municipal Market, but at the same time, we want our vendors to feel supported and protected throughout the entire process so that 'La Plasa' continues to be a commercial, gastronomic, and social landmark for the city.”
The renovation of “La Plasa” will not only mean an improvement of the facilities and services, but also a firm commitment to modernizing the municipal market without leaving behind those who have sustained the commercial activity and the local economic fabric for years.
