The City Council begins the complete renovation of the air conditioning system of the municipal swimming pool
The Sports Department of the Torrevieja City Council informs the public about the conclusions of the technical reports carried out after the incident recently recorded in the municipal heated swimming pool, consisting of the detachment of a ventilation duct located inside the facility.
Following the incident, the corresponding administrative file was immediately opened with the aim of determining the causes of the event and evaluating the general condition of the support systems of the affected infrastructure.
To this end, the responsible municipal technician requested the preparation of a detailed report from the company awarded the maintenance service of the municipal sports facilities, SERVEO SERVICIOS, SA, which was subsequently complemented by a specific analysis carried out by the specialized company ANVER TRABAJOS VERTICALES SLU in charge of the inspection work at height due to the complex location of the duct, located above the water surface of the pool.
COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS OF THE FACILITY
The inspection work also included a review of the remaining anchor points and support elements in the installation, without detecting at that time any indications of a generalized structural failure or situations of imminent risk that would suggest further collapses.
However, after completing the full technical study, the specialists concluded that the incident originated from the progressive deterioration of the pipe's fixing elements. This degradation would have caused a gradual loss of the support system's load-bearing capacity until it finally failed, resulting in the detachment.
PROJECT FOR A NEW, SAFER, AND MORE EFFICIENT SYSTEM
As a result of the conclusions obtained, the Torrevieja City Council has launched a process for contracting the project to replace and install a new air conditioning duct for the heated municipal swimming pool.
The planned work will not be limited to simply replacing the existing infrastructure, but will incorporate a substantial modification of the current design. The new route will eliminate the pipeline crossing the water surface, a measure that will increase the installation's safety levels, reduce future risks, and facilitate both maintenance and periodic inspections.
The Department of Sports emphasizes that this action is part of the municipal commitment to maintain sports facilities in the best possible condition, guaranteeing the safety of users, workers and clubs that carry out their daily activity in the heated swimming pool.
COMMITMENT TO USER SAFETY
The Councillor for Sports, Diana Box Alonso, has stated that “from the very beginning we have acted with absolute responsibility and transparency, commissioning the necessary technical reports to find out exactly what happened and to adopt the most appropriate measures to prevent a similar situation from happening again.”
Diana Box also emphasized that “the safety of municipal sports facilities is an absolute priority for this government team, so we are already working on a definitive solution that will improve the conditions of the heated swimming pool and offer greater guarantees to all its users.”
The Torrevieja City Council regrets any inconvenience this situation may have caused to users of the facility and reaffirms its commitment to the continuous improvement of municipal sports facilities, promoting investments and actions that allow us to continue offering modern, safe spaces adapted to the needs of citizens.
