The Eras de la Sal will be transformed into a modern, accessible space connected to the port, the sea, and the city center. The construction work will be put out to tender in the coming weeks, running parallel to the work on the Habaneras Auditorium.

The Local Governing Board of the Torrevieja City Council has approved the execution projects for the construction of the Sea and Salt Museum and its surroundings, included in the Torrevieja Integrated Action Plan and co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), as well as the execution project for the Saltworks Administration House and the Saltworks Easel, drafted by the company Pedrosa Arquitectos SLP.

This approval marks the culmination of a decisive phase in one of the most important strategic projects for the urban and heritage transformation of Torrevieja, which will allow the recovery and enhancement of the historical complex of Eras de la Sal as a great cultural, tourist and civic space open to the sea.

In the coming weeks, the construction works will be put out to tender in parallel with those of the Habaneras Auditorium.

A NEW CULTURAL AXIS THAT WILL CONNECT THE MUSEUM, THE SALT WORKS AND THE WATERFRONT

The regeneration project for the Sea and Salt Museum maintains the general criteria defined in the basic project approved by the City Council and is committed to a contemporary intervention that recovers the industrial salt landscape and reinforces the historical identity of this unique enclave in the city.

The project will allow for a more efficient articulation of the relationship between the museum, the Eras de la Sal, the Paseo de la Sal and the seafront through a new sequence of public spaces, squares and pedestrian routes that will promote the connection between heritage, culture and urban activity.

One of the main objectives is to reinforce the integration between the exhibition environment and the salt landscape, generating parallel routes at different levels that will allow the visitor to better understand the history and evolution of the salt activity that gave rise to Torrevieja.

Furthermore, the project will improve accessibility throughout the area, reinforce the continuity of the waterfront, and transform currently fragmented spaces into a coherent, attractive urban complex fully integrated into the city.

MORE THAN 15.4 MILLION EUROS TO RECOVER ONE OF TORREVIEJA'S MOST EMBLEMATIC SPACES

The project for the construction of the Sea and Salt Museum and its surroundings has a base tender budget of 15,494,541.53 euros including VAT and a planned execution period of 20 months.

Of this investment, 11,761,032.88 euros correspond to the construction of the Sea and Salt Museum, while 3,733,508.66 euros are allocated to the execution of the new Salt Promenade, which will act as a backbone element of the entire heritage and cultural complex of the Salt Eras.

RESTORATION OF THE SALINAS ADMINISTRATION HOUSE

The Local Governing Board has also approved the execution project of the Administration House of the Saltworks, a protected building listed as a Local Relevance Asset and an Element of Urban Architectural Interest.

The intervention will allow the recovery of this historic building while respecting its architectural and heritage values, restoring its facades, interior spaces and original construction elements, while adapting it to the new cultural and museum uses planned for the Eras de la Sal complex.

The building will become a key element within the exhibition route, acting as a transition point between the city, the museum, the promenade and the seafront.

THE EASEL WILL REGAIN ITS PROMINENCE IN THE SALT LANDSCAPE

The project also includes the comprehensive restoration of the historic Saltworks Easel, one of the most representative symbols of Torrevieja's salt industrial heritage.

The project includes the consolidation and restoration of its structure, the correction of pathologies and the adaptation of the whole to current safety and conservation requirements, thus guaranteeing its preservation for future generations.

In addition to protecting this unique element, the intervention will reinforce its role as a visual landmark of the salt landscape and as a fundamental piece within the future cultural and tourist route of the Salt Eras.
