The Municipal Council for people with disabilities strengthens the participation of entities to continue moving towards a more inclusive Torrevieja
The Torrevieja Municipal Council for People with Disabilities held its regular session this morning in the Town Hall's Plenary Hall. The session was chaired by Mayor Eduardo Dolón and attended by Councillor for NGOs, Trudy Páez, as well as municipal representatives and associations that work daily to support people with disabilities and their families. The agenda included the approval of the minutes from the previous session and a question and answer period to continue gathering the needs and proposals of the municipality's network of associations.
The Torrevieja City Council for People with Disabilities has established itself as the main body for consultation and citizen participation on disability issues within the Torrevieja City Council. It includes representatives from the municipality's leading social organizations, along with members of the City Council, with the aim of working collaboratively to design and improve public policies for this group.
Among the associations that are part of the Council are ADIEM, ALPE, AMFA, APANEE, the Alzheimer Association and ASIMEPP, thus guaranteeing the representation of a wide diversity of realities and needs.
PROMOTING INCLUSION, ACCESSIBILITY AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES
The Council's Regulations establish as their main purpose the promotion of the active participation of people with functional diversity in the planning, development and evaluation of municipal policies, as well as fostering an increasingly accessible, inclusive and equal city.
Among its functions are issuing reports and proposals to the City Council, promoting inclusion projects, coordinating between the different municipal departments and social entities, monitoring accessibility regulations, promoting awareness campaigns and defending the rights of people with disabilities.
During the Council sessions, associations can directly convey to the City Council their concerns, needs and proposals for improvement in areas such as urban accessibility, mobility, employment, education, public services, inclusive activities or the elimination of architectural barriers.
At the previous meeting held last March, issues such as municipal subsidies for associations, the organization of Disability Week, the Disability Gala, the improvement of adapted bathing facilities on beaches, the expansion of spaces for people with reduced mobility, and new initiatives to continue advancing social inclusion in the municipality were already addressed.
The Torrevieja City Council continues to strengthen its commitment to people with disabilities by promoting this participatory body, convinced that ongoing collaboration with associations is a fundamental tool for designing more effective, inclusive public policies adapted to the real needs of citizens.
