Torrevieja promotes the definitive transformation of the Eras de la Sal with the approval of the auditorium project and the tendering of the museography of the Museum of the Sea
The Local Governing Board of the Torrevieja City Council will approve tomorrow, Friday, two new and important agreements that represent a definitive step in the comprehensive transformation of the Eras de la Sal area, one of the most ambitious strategic projects for the city.
On the one hand, the implementation plan for Phase 2 of the Eras de la Sal project will be approved. This phase includes the renovation of Salero Street, the new open-air Habaneras auditorium, and the complete restoration of the old Marina Internacional shipyard. On the other hand, the contract for the museography services of the future Torrevieja Maritime Museum will also be approved. Both agreements will allow continued progress in creating a major cultural, heritage, and tourist space destined to become one of the leading attractions in the Mediterranean.
A WATERFRONT AUDITORIUM TO SHOWCASE THE INTERNATIONAL HABANERA COMPETITION TO THE WORLD
The most outstanding action of this new phase will be the construction of the new auditorium, a performance space open to the sea designed specifically to host the International Habaneras and Polyphony Competition, although conceived to host concerts, cultural shows and large outdoor events throughout the year, as well as being a tourist viewpoint to contemplate the seafront of the city.
The Local Governing Board will approve tomorrow the construction project submitted by Paredes Pedrosa Arquitectos SLP, which will allow the next bidding process for the works to begin, now that the tender specifications are being drawn up. The project has a base budget of €10,485,452 (including VAT) and a 24-month construction period.
The new auditorium will take advantage of the unique topography of the old shipyard to fully integrate into the landscape, maintaining both the historic boat ramp and the alignment of the seafront, which will become part of the natural setting of the site.
The grandstand, open towards the bay of Torrevieja, will naturally connect the different levels of the new Paseo de la Sal, also becoming a great viewpoint over the Mediterranean.
MORE THAN 1,500 SPECTATORS AND SPACES FOR ARTISTS, REHEARSALS AND TRAINING
The new venue will have a total capacity of 1,502 seats, distributed as follows: 712 seats in fixed stands, 288 seats in removable stands and 502 removable seats to expand capacity for large events.
Under the stands, all the necessary services for the operation of the venue will be provided: dressing rooms and changing rooms for artists, storage areas, public toilets, large rehearsal and vocalization rooms, and multipurpose classrooms with natural lighting.
Also, facing the sea, a large stage platform will be set up to accommodate demountable stages, supported by six white concrete technical towers, conceived as authentic contemporary masts capable of supporting stage lighting, sound, audiovisual systems and large textile sails to provide shade during the summer months.
The project goes beyond the construction of the amphitheater; it entails a profound urban and landscape transformation of the entire area. The intervention will definitively unite spaces that have remained physically and visually disconnected for decades, creating a large, continuous pedestrian route between the Vista Alegre Promenade, Salero Street, the pier, and the old slipway of the Marina Internacional marina.
The new Paseo de la Sal will be developed on two levels: a lower promenade next to the dock and the seafront; and an upper one that will extend the Paseo de Vista Alegre to connect with the Faleria avenue through a large garden with trees.
The project will also incorporate new landscaped areas, new paving, seating areas and accessible routes that will make this area one of the great public spaces of Torrevieja.
The entire complex has been conceived as a tribute to the salt workers of Torrevieja, to the port's history and to the city's close historical relationship with the sea and the salt industry.
THE MUSEUM OF THE SEA BEGINS ITS MUSEOGRAPHIC EQUIPMENT
In parallel, the Local Governing Board will also approve the contract file for the museography service of the Torrevieja Maritime Museum, including the technical report, the specifications, the technical and administrative documents, and the corresponding expenditure, through a simplified open procedure. The tender price for drafting the project amounts to 55,296 euros (VAT included), with the contract duration for the basic and detailed design being 5 months.
This contract will provide the future museum with the exhibition content, interpretive resources and museographic elements necessary to make it a modern, interactive space fully integrated into the heritage site of the Eras de la Sal.
With these two new agreements, the City Council continues to advance in one of the most important urban regeneration projects of recent decades.
The comprehensive restoration of the Eras de la Sal will create a large cultural complex consisting of the Sea Museum, the Saltworks Administration House, the Eras de la Sal Easel, the new Paseo de la Sal and the future Maritime Amphitheater, forming a unique space that will reinforce the identity of Torrevieja, enhance its historical heritage and consolidate the city as a cultural and tourist reference throughout the year.
