Torrevieja, distinguished by the Vuelta a España with the national "Más bici" seal in 2026 for its commitment to sustainable mobility
Torrevieja has been awarded the "Más Bici" (More Bikes) seal for 2026 by the organizers of La Vuelta a España, a prestigious national distinction that recognizes the commitment of Spanish municipalities to promoting the everyday use of bicycles and developing sustainable mobility policies. The city is part of an exclusive group of 18 municipalities across Spain that have received this distinction in the 2026 edition, solidifying its position as a leader in the pursuit of a healthier and more environmentally friendly urban model.
The “Más Bici” seal is part of the social commitment program "La Vuelta es Más", promoted by the organization of the Spanish cycling tour with the aim of recognizing those cities and municipalities that develop initiatives aimed at promoting active mobility habits among citizens.
RECOGNITION OF POLICIES ON SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY, SPORT AND TOURISM
Torrevieja's candidacy has been assessed taking into account different areas related to cycling infrastructure, services and education linked to the use of bicycles, as well as sports initiatives and the promotion of cycle tourism, aspects that are part of the criteria established by the organization of La Vuelta to grant this distinction.
This recognition represents an important endorsement of the work that the Torrevieja City Council has been carrying out to move towards a city model that is increasingly sustainable, healthy and respectful of the environment, promoting mobility alternatives that improve the quality of life of citizens and favor a more pleasant coexistence in the urban space.
The 2026 edition of the “Más Bici” seal has distinguished a total of 18 new Spanish municipalities, including six towns in the province of Alicante: Benidorm, Calpe, Castalla, Orihuela, Torrevieja and Villena, making the province the most represented in the entire country in this national recognition.
With this addition, there are now 23 Spanish municipalities that have the "Más Bici" seal, following the five cities that received the distinction in its first edition: Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid, Valladolid and Zaragoza.
The organizers of La Vuelta emphasize that the “Más Bici” (More Bike) seal aims to create a lasting legacy beyond the sporting competition itself, encouraging public administrations to continue developing policies that integrate the bicycle as an everyday means of transport, a tool to improve public health, and a driving force for tourism and sport.
