The Local Governing Board approves the project for the construction of the new heated swimming pool at the Torrevieja Sports City

To achieve complete integration with the existing spaces and facilities, the exterior space will be reorganized, incorporating new green areas and landscaped gardens.

The Local Governing Board of the Torrevieja City Council has approved this morning the project for the construction of a new heated swimming pool in the Sports City, which will be located in the area behind the "Tavi y Carmona" Sports Palace and opposite the Cecilio Gallego Pavilion.

The approval of the project represents a new step towards the execution of this new sports infrastructure, which will have a tender budget of 5,533,669.03 euros (VAT included) and a planned execution period of 18 months.

The Councillor for Sports, Diana Box Alonso, has announced that the new heated swimming pool will have a basin 25 meters long by 12.50 meters wide, which can be used as a warm-up pool and for the development of aquatic activities.

The building will have one floor above ground and one below. The ground floor will house the reception area, the swimming pool, three changing rooms, restrooms, indoor seating, various hallways, and outdoor seating. The basement level will include a service gallery, utility rooms, a surge tank, a storage area, and a hallway.

A NEW FACILITY INTEGRATED INTO THE SPORTS COMPLEX

The project continues the plan defined to integrate the new swimming pool with the existing spaces and facilities in the Torrevieja Sports City.

The changing room area will be organized into three separate sections: women's, men's, and mixed/family, the latter intended, among other uses, to facilitate the accompaniment of minors. The changing rooms will be equipped with sinks, toilets, urinals, showers, lockers, benches, and coat hooks.

The venue will also have spectator stands and a direct connection to the existing indoor swimming pool at the "Tavi y Carmona" Sports Palace, reinforcing the joint functionality of both facilities.

With the aim of achieving complete integration with the rest of the sports complex, the project also includes the reorganization of the exterior space, incorporating new green and landscaped areas, as well as the adaptation of the existing parking lot and an area designated for bicycle parking.

ACCESSIBILITY AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY

The project has been designed to ensure accessibility for people with reduced mobility and communication abilities, allowing access and movement throughout the building in accordance with specific regulations. Furthermore, the facility will comply with the NIDE standards developed by the Spanish National Sports Council for the planning, design, and construction of swimming pools, which establish criteria related to safety, accessibility, water quality, and operational efficiency of this type of facility.

In terms of energy, the new heated pool will have a centralized, high-efficiency system, completely independent of the existing pool's boiler installation, designed to simultaneously meet the thermal and electrical needs of the new infrastructure.

The system will incorporate two main heat pumps, intended to produce all the Domestic Hot Water (DHW) needed for the changing rooms and to directly heat the semi-Olympic pool basin, allowing the water to be kept stable at a temperature range of between 25 °C and 28 °C.

Additionally, a specialized, independent dehumidifying unit will be installed for the environmental treatment of the pool area, responsible for extracting excess moisture from the air. This unit will feature a heat recovery system that will allow for the utilization of waste energy and its reintroduction into the system, thus optimizing resource consumption.

These facilities will be complemented by an independent photovoltaic solar plant of approximately 13 kW of power, located on the roof of the building and intended to generate electricity for the direct self-consumption of the equipment and pumping systems of the new swimming pool.

The project also stipulates that the energy contribution from renewable sources will cover at least 70% of the annual energy demand for domestic hot water and pool heating, including thermal losses from distribution, storage and recirculation.

The combination of these systems will allow the new swimming pool to have an independent and highly efficient energy model, aimed at significantly reducing operating costs, consumption from the conventional network and CO₂ emissions, moving towards a more efficient and sustainable management of municipal sports facilities.
