Applications are now open to become Queen of Salt and Ladies-in-Waiting 2026/2027
The Torrevieja City Council's Department of Festivals has opened the application period for those wishing to be part of the 2026/2027 Salt Queen Court, comprised of the Salt Queen and her two ladies-in-waiting. The Councilor for Festivals, Rosario Martínez, announced that interested young women can submit their applications until Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
The Salt Queen and her ladies-in-waiting are the highest representatives of the Torrevieja festivities and embody the local character, customs, and traditions. Their election continues a tradition that began in 1963, although the city had already been awarding other representative titles since the beginning of the 20th century.
Rosario Martínez has encouraged young women from Torrevieja to participate in this competition and experience “a unique opportunity, closely linked to the history, festivals, and identity of our city.” “We are looking for young women committed to Torrevieja, who know and value our traditions and who approach with enthusiasm and responsibility the important task of representing the city both within and beyond the municipality,” the Councilor for Festivals stated.
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICANTS
Candidates must be natives of Torrevieja or have been registered residents of the municipality for at least the last five years. They must also be between 18 and 26 years old. Submitting an application implies full acceptance of the rules and the commitments associated with being Queen of the Salt or a lady-in-waiting.
Applicants must provide a curriculum vitae detailing their education, interests and hobbies, their vision of Torrevieja and its festivals, as well as their participation in the different areas of the city, including festive, cultural, sporting or social aspects.
The application must also include a photocopy of the National Identity Document and close-up, medium, and full-length photographs, which will be added to each candidate's file. These images may be provided to the media to promote the applicants.
SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
Applications and required documentation must be submitted in a sealed envelope to the Department of Festivals, located at Calle Caballero de Rodas, number 23. Submission hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. The deadline for submissions is 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23.
Those interested in further information or resolving any doubts can contact the Department of Festivals by phone at 616 70 55 22.
SELECTION PROCESS
All applicants will participate in the selection process determined by the Department of Festivals. This procedure will include, among other tests, a series of personal interviews with members of a jury appointed by the Department itself.
The jury will be responsible for selecting the three young women who will make up the new Salt Queen Court. Later, it will be determined which of them will be proclaimed Salt Queen and who will serve as her ladies-in-waiting.
The selected women will participate in the preparation of the Proclamation and Coronation Gala of the Salt Queen, under the coordination of the Department of Festivals, which will organize all the necessary aspects for the development of the event.
Following their selection, proclamation and coronation, the Salt Queen and her ladies-in-waiting will commit to attending institutional, festive and cultural events, as well as media appearances, as required by the Department of Festivals.
