The program includes yoga, Zumba, Tai Chi, various dance styles, Sevillanas, flamenco, crafts, ceramics, crochet, and training in mobile phones and social media. More than 1,000 students participated in the activities organized by the Department for Senior Citizens in Torrevieja and La Mata during the previous academic year.

The Department for Senior Citizens of the Torrevieja City Council will open the registration period for participation in the municipal workshops and courses corresponding to the 2026/2027 period next Monday, September 7.

Those interested can submit their applications until Friday, September 25, at the facilities of the San Pascual Senior Citizens' Center, located at 117 San Pascual Street. Registrations will be done in person, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., during the period established by the Council.

The new program offers a wide variety of proposals aimed at promoting active aging, coexistence, learning and the physical and emotional well-being of the elderly in the municipality.

The Councillor for Senior Citizens, Inmaculada Montesinos, highlighted the positive reception these activities receive each year, noting that over 1,000 students participated in Torrevieja and La Mata last year. “These workshops have become a vital meeting point for many senior citizens, allowing them to stay active, learn, socialize, and spend time with other residents,” Montesinos stated.

The councilor added that "from the Department we want to offer a varied, accessible program adapted to their interests, which contributes both to health care and personal development and to improving their quality of life."

A WIDE RANGE OF ACTIVITIES

The program for the 2026/2027 academic year combines physical, artistic, creative, cultural, and educational activities. Within the area of physical exercise and well-being, workshops will be offered in yoga, Zumba, and Tai Chi, disciplines that help improve mobility, coordination, balance, and overall physical fitness.

The program will also include various dance-related activities, such as line dancing, ballroom dancing, Sevillanas, flamenco, and castanets. These activities help develop memory, rhythm, and coordination, while also promoting socialization and camaraderie among participants.

Those interested in creative and artisanal activities can choose from workshops in crafts, ceramics, mold making and crochet, designed to stimulate dexterity, concentration, imagination and artistic expression.

The program is complemented by training in mobile telephony and social networks, the aim of which is to facilitate the handling of technological devices and improve the digital autonomy of older people.

These courses will allow participants to become familiar with some of the main communication tools and applications that are part of everyday life, thus facilitating their connection with family, friends and services of interest.

ACTIVITIES IN TORREVIEJA AND LA MATA

The workshops and courses will be held in various municipal facilities, including the Municipal Leisure Center (CMO), the San Pascual Senior Citizens' Center, and the La Mata Multipurpose Social Center. In this way, the Department for Senior Citizens will facilitate the participation of both residents of Torrevieja's urban center and seniors living in La Mata and the surrounding area.

Inmaculada Montesinos emphasized that “the high participation rate recorded during the previous course demonstrates the importance of these initiatives and the interest of our senior citizens in continuing to learn and enjoy an active life.” The councilwoman also indicated that “in addition to the inherent benefits of each activity, these workshops help prevent situations of isolation and unwanted loneliness, foster connections among participants, and strengthen their sense of belonging to the community.”

Finally, the Department for Senior Citizens encourages interested people to learn about the program and participate in workshops that offer spaces for training, coexistence, creativity and physical activity during the 2026/2027 academic year.
