The drafting of the project and the direction of the works to prepare the 6,700 meters of the greenway have been awarded

The Local Governing Board of the Torrevieja City Council has approved the awarding of the contract for drafting the project and managing the construction work for the repair of 6,700 meters of the Torrevieja Greenway to the joint venture CUATROTECA, for a total amount of €77,129.55 (VAT included). Of this amount, €51,419.70 corresponds to the drafting of the project, while the remaining €25,709.85 is allocated to the subsequent construction management and health and safety coordination. The deadline for drafting the project is two months.

COMPREHENSIVE REPAIR OF A 6.7 KILOMETER ROAD

The Torrevieja Greenway follows the old Albatera-Torrevieja railway line and is now an urban and natural route connecting different areas of the city. It leads to Acequión Beach and skirts the Torrevieja Pink Lagoon. This route is used for leisure, outdoor sports, and sustainable transportation, as well as connecting different urban and natural spaces and helping to highlight the cultural and environmental heritage of the area.

The route planned for the project begins at kilometer 0, next to the Salt Museum, and initially features a section with two distinct surfaces: an asphalt surface for bicycles and a cobblestone area for pedestrians. From kilometer 3.4, the route becomes a single compacted dirt track, crossing a reed bed that forms a natural barrier and refuge for local wildlife. The planned route ends at kilometer 6.7, at the CV-945 road.

A SAFER AND MORE COMFORTABLE ROUTE FOR PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLISTS

The aim of this action will be to restore and improve the route for non-motorized traffic, mainly bicycles and pedestrian travel, taking advantage of the fact that it is a regular route with practically no slopes.

Thus, the project must define the necessary actions to achieve a more comfortable and safe circulation, improving the current conditions of this green infrastructure and promoting its use both for daily commutes and for sports and leisure activities.

The drafting of the project must consider four main basic objectives: the improvement of public space and the urban landscape; social integration and participation; sustainability and application of environmental criteria; and the different uses and activities that take place along this route.

ENVIRONMENTAL INTEGRATION AND PERMIT PROCESSING

The technical documentation will also have to analyze the various impacts on the route, both due to land ownership and its relationship with the Natural Resources Management Plan for the La Mata and Torrevieja Lagoons Natural Park. These circumstances must be taken into account in the project's development and in the procedures necessary to obtain the corresponding permits and authorizations.

The award represents a continuation of the procedure initiated by the City Council for the improvement of the Green Way. In February 2024, the Local Governing Board approved the tender to contract the drafting of the project and the construction management of its repair.

The drafting of this project will technically define the actions necessary for the subsequent execution of the repair and improvement works of this important pedestrian and cycling corridor in Torrevieja.
