The local governing board approves the contract for drafting the project to remodel the stands of the athletics track and create a new area for sand sports

The Local Governing Board of Torrevieja City Council has approved the contract for drafting the renovation project for the stands at the athletics track of the Sports Complex, the creation of a multi-sport area with a sand surface, and the reorganization of the surrounding area. This project aims to modernize and expand the municipal sports facilities. The drafting of the project has a base budget of €81,000 (including VAT) and will have a completion deadline of six months from the date the contract is signed.

The project addresses the sustained increase in users of the sports facilities and the need to renovate spaces that are over 30 years old, incorporating improvements in accessibility, safety, energy efficiency, and functionality. The contract will provide all the necessary technical documentation to subsequently proceed with the bidding and execution of the works.

COMPREHENSIVE RENOVATION OF THE ATHLETICS TRACK

The Sports Councillor of Torrevieja City Council, Diana Box, has announced that the construction of a new grandstand with a timing tower is planned for the athletics track at the Sports City, as well as the rehabilitation of the existing grandstand and the reorganization of the spaces located under the stands, currently used for changing rooms, storage and other multipurpose uses.

Likewise, the project must include the renovation and adaptation of the enclosures, with a new perimeter fence in the East area, in addition to the improvement of drainage to solve the water accumulations detected in the vicinity of the stands.

The track lighting will also be modernized with new towers equipped with LED lights on galvanized steel columns, improving both the light quality and the energy efficiency of the installation.

NEW MULTI-SPACE AREA FOR SAND SPORTS

The second major project will take place next to the south side of the "Cecilio Gallego" municipal pavilion, in the space that was previously occupied by a dirt 7-a-side football pitch.

The project includes the complete cleanup and improvement of this area, including the removal of existing vegetation and materials, the construction of a new perimeter fence with a retaining wall, and the creation of sand pits for year-round beach sports.

The new facility will be equipped for beach soccer, beach volleyball, and beach handball. For lighting, the three existing towers will be utilized, and a fourth tower equipped with LED technology will be installed.

In addition, the reorganization of the exterior spaces will be planned, including pavements, routes, green areas and furniture, seeking a better integration of the entire area with the Sports City complex.

OVER 3 MILLION EUROS ESTIMATED INVESTMENT

The supporting documentation establishes an initial estimate of €2,100,840.34 for the Construction Budget (PEM) for the future works. After incorporating overhead costs and profit margin, the contract execution budget is estimated at €3,025,000 (VAT included). This amount is indicative and will be finalized upon completion of the project design.

The main estimated expenditures include €737,383.50 for the new stands and timing tower; €676,466 for the renovation of the existing stands; €302,250 for the multi-purpose sand sports area; and €210,083.75 for the landscaping and reorganization of the exterior spaces. Also included are €75,630 for the replacement of the LED sports lighting, €46,218 for the new perimeter fencing, and €52,809.09 for the upgrading of drainage and utility networks.

The Department of Sports, together with the Department of Urban Services, will be in charge of the monitoring and ordinary execution of the contract, which will allow the technical definition of a comprehensive action aimed at modernizing one of the main sports spaces in Torrevieja and expanding the possibilities for practicing sports in the municipal Sports City.
