The construction of the "Tomás Ballester Herrera" Alzheimer's day center is now out to tender.

The Local Governing Board of the Torrevieja City Council has approved this morning the file, corresponding expenditure, explanatory report, technical data sheet, specifications and administrative clauses for the construction of a Day Center for people with Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases "Tomás Ballester Herrera", an infrastructure long demanded by the Torrevieja society.

The project has a total execution budget of 10,856,623 euros (VAT included), which reflects the scale of an action that aspires to become a benchmark in specialized care at the regional level.

The new center will be built in Sector 25 of the PGOU, in a strategic location opposite the Quirón Hospital, and will have a constructed area of approximately 2,700 square meters, within a plot of more than 7,900 square meters, which will allow the integration of spacious, functional spaces adapted to the needs of the users.

COMPREHENSIVE CARE IN THREE MAJOR DISTINCT AREAS

From a functional standpoint, the building has been designed to offer comprehensive care, structured into three main distinct areas. Firstly, the access and administration area, with over 400 m², will include a reception area, offices, a staff room, an auditorium, and spaces adapted for visitors.

Secondly, the general services area, with approximately 500 m², will house a dining room, kitchen, laundry, staff changing rooms and essential logistics areas for the proper functioning of the center.

Finally, the specialized care area, which exceeds 1,000 m², will concentrate the core care with activity rooms, living spaces, rehabilitation, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, medical consultation, psychological office, as well as complementary services such as hairdressing and podiatry, all with fully adapted geriatric toilets and bathrooms.

This new social and healthcare resource will address one of the city's main needs, offering a specific space for the care of people with neurodegenerative diseases, with a focus on both the quality of life of patients and the support of their families and caregivers.

The center's design prioritizes modern, accessible, and safe facilities, conceived to promote cognitive stimulation, personal autonomy, and emotional well-being of users, in a friendly environment adapted to the different phases of the disease.

The future launch of the "Tomás Ballester Herrera" Day Centre will mark a turning point in the network of social and healthcare resources in the municipality, consolidating Torrevieja as a benchmark in specialized care and in the care of the most vulnerable people.
