The International Auditorium will host a medical symposium that will combine scientific exchange with the celebration of the championship.

The Councillor for Sports of the Torrevieja City Council, Diana Box, and the Councillor for Public Health, Rosa Cañón, presented this morning at a press conference, together with the psychiatrist and president of the Organizing Committee, Jesús Enrique Mesones, the World Medical Football Championship (WMFC) 2027, which will be held in the city from September 25 to October 2, 2027.

This will be the first time this international championship has been held in Spain. The event will bring together 60 teams from 40 countries around the world, made up exclusively of doctors from different specialties, and will feature four tournaments running concurrently at the Ciudad Deportiva facilities.

The selection of Torrevieja as the venue builds on the city's experience in this sport, having hosted the Spanish Medical Football Championship in 2025. This precedent underscores its organizational capacity and the suitability of its facilities to host an international competition.

A NEW INTERNATIONAL EVENT AT THE SPORTS CITY

The Councillor for Sports, Diana Box, highlighted that “hosting this championship is a great opportunity to showcase our sports facilities and Torrevieja’s capacity to organize international competitions. Following the experience of the 2025 Spanish Championship, we are approaching this new event with enthusiasm and a commitment to offering participants the best possible conditions to compete and enjoy our city.”

Diana Box added that "the presence of teams from 40 countries will allow us to showcase Torrevieja as a sports destination and generate activity beyond the playing fields. We want the doctors and their companions to discover our tourist, cultural, and gastronomic offerings and take away an experience that will help promote the city worldwide."

The city council's support will take the form of making the Sports Complex available for the matches and the International Auditorium for the scientific program. The council will also provide the necessary referees for the competition.

The president of the Organizing Committee, Jesús Enrique Mesones, highlighted the importance of this institutional collaboration, both for the sporting organization and for the scientific activities that will accompany the World Championships. "Torrevieja has everything we were looking for: top-level facilities, the capacity to host thousands of visitors, and a city that has embraced the project from day one," he said, adding that "without the support of the Torrevieja City Council, this championship would not be possible. The use of the Sports Complex and the International Auditorium, along with their contribution of referees, are the foundation upon which we have built the entire event," Mesones emphasized.

SPORT, HEALTH AND KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE

Alongside the competition, the Torrevieja International Auditorium will host the International Medical Symposium, which will be structured into thematic days dedicated to different medical disciplines and will feature professionals of recognized national and international prestige.

The Councillor for Public Health, Rosa Cañón, pointed out that "this championship brings together two closely related fields: sport and health. In addition to the competition, Torrevieja will host a meeting space for professionals from different countries to share knowledge and experiences, which adds value to the celebration of the World Championship."

Rosa Cañón emphasized that "from Public Health we consider it especially positive that an event of this nature contributes to highlighting the practice of sports as part of healthy lifestyle habits.

INTERNATIONAL PROJECTION AND ACTIVITY FOR THE LOCAL ECONOMY

The organizers anticipate that the championship will attract more than 1,500 doctors and their companions during the week-long event, generating activity in accommodations, restaurants, shops, transportation, and leisure services. They estimate the direct economic impact will be between €1.5 and €2 million.

The international promotion of the venue already began during the Medical Football World Cup held in Ireland in 2025 and will continue next December in Costa Rica, where the championship will be presented to medical delegations from different countries.
