Torrevieja unites against Breast Cancer with a day of awareness and support for those affected
This morning, the Plaza de la Constitución hosted the commemoration of World Breast Cancer Day, a day of awareness and solidarity with those facing this disease and their families. The event was attended by the Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón; the Councillor for NGOs and Citizen Participation, Trudy Páez; the President of AFECÁNCER, Vicky Meneses; and several members of the municipal council.
The event included the setting up of an information table and the reading of the manifesto by the president of AFECÁNCER. Afterwards, pink balloons were released as a symbolic gesture of support for those affected and of unity in the fight against breast cancer.
Institutional support has accompanied AFECÁNCER on a day that raises awareness of the disease and brings it into the public sphere. The Plaza de la Constitución has thus become a meeting point to express Torrevieja's solidarity with those undergoing cancer treatment and their families.
A DATE TO RAISE AWARENESS, DETECT EARLY AND PROVIDE SUPPORT
Every October 19th, World Breast Cancer Day is commemorated to raise awareness, highlight the importance of early detection, and advocate for advancements in research, treatments, and patient support. The day also aims to bring to light the physical, emotional, and social needs that can persist during and after the disease.
This date falls within October, the month dedicated internationally to raising awareness about breast cancer. Its importance lies in keeping this disease on the public agenda and promoting access to timely diagnosis and quality care. The World Health Organization highlights these objectives as the central themes of this month's commemoration.
