A participatory activity will help identify everyday situations of inequality and violence against women
The Department of Social Welfare of the Torrevieja City Council, through the Pangea Office and the Equality Unit, has organized the participatory activity "And what do you see? Everyday stories, important realities" , an initiative aimed at promoting equality between women and men and preventing violence against women through reflection on everyday life situations.
The proposal is part of the commemoration of November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and will take place on Monday, November 16, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., in the Multipurpose Building, located at Habaneras Avenue, number 8.
Through a dynamic, practical, and participatory methodology, participants will analyze everyday stories and situations to recognize behaviors related to inequality, control, jealousy, discrimination, or violence. The activity will focus particularly on attitudes that can become normalized in personal, family, social, or work relationships and that hinder the development of bonds based on respect, autonomy, and kindness.
The session will be facilitated jointly by the Equality Officer and the Intercultural Mediator from the Pangea Office. This collaboration will combine a gender perspective with an intercultural approach, fostering dialogue, the exchange of experiences, and respect for diversity.
The initiative aims to promote equal relationships, identify warning signs, and reflect on gender roles and stereotypes. It will also provide practical tools for responding to situations of inequality or violence, both when they affect the individual and when they are observed in their environment.
During the meeting, information will also be provided about the care and support resources available in Torrevieja, as well as the ways to request help and accompany a person who may be suffering from a situation of violence.
The activity is aimed at adults registered as residents of Torrevieja, both women and men, regardless of their nationality or immigration status. With this initiative, the Department of Social Welfare seeks to involve the entire community in preventing violence against women, promoting a space for meeting and learning where viewpoints can be shared and preconceived ideas challenged.
To facilitate active participation and the exchange of opinions, attendance will be limited to a maximum of 30 people, so prior registration will be required until all available places are filled. Participants will receive a certificate of participation.
Registrations can be made through the form enabled for the activity , in person at the Department of Social Welfare or by email to pangea@torrevieja.eu .
The Department of Social Welfare encourages citizens to participate in this initiative, which aims to bring awareness into everyday life and remind people that recognizing the signs of inequality and questioning controlling and discriminatory behaviors are fundamental steps to building a fairer, more equal and violence-free society.
