The University of Alicante works on the creation of marketable biomass from wastewater or saline
The team of researchers from the University of Alicante, led by Professor Rosa María Martínez Espinosa, is studying the use of halophilic microorganisms to clean contaminated water and brines before they are returned to the sea. Microorganisms consume these contaminants as food and make them disappear. At the same time, they create a biomass that can be used to make bioplastics. A raw material that can replace polluting plastics.

According to the statistical data on population and evolution of the Municipal Register of the City Council, the city of Torrevieja has started the year 2022 with a total of 87,901 registered inhabitants, of which 49,807 (56.6%) are of Spanish origin, while the rest , 38,094 (43.4%) come from abroad.

On December 1, the face-to-face sale of 3.0 bonds will open at the Office of Commerce and Occupation of Public Roads. On Friday, December 3 from 4:00 p.m., the online sale will open. The city council will renew a large part of the public lighting in the urban area of Torrevieja and the southern area of La Mata
A total of 1,190 luminaires will be replaced thanks to a subsidy of 912,620 euros granted by the Alicante Provincial Council.The new LED luminaires have an energy saving forecast of 53%, which will mean the saving of more than 70,000 euros in monetary value yearly on the electricity bill

The administrative specifications for the hiring of the project drafting service for the reorganization of the Los Locos beach promenade have been approved
The Department of Quality of urban services, led by the mayor Sandra Sánchez, has to provide the Los Locos beach promenade with a new redevelopment that significantly improves accessibility to the coastline, providing it with pedestrian routes and areas spacious rooms for the enjoyment of citizens and complying with applicable regulations on accessibility in urban areas.

The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, and the Councilor for Quality of Urban Services, Sandra Sánchez, have visited this morning together with residents of the urbanization, the construction works of an accessible pedestrian walkway between the nearby cul-de-sac to Joaquín García Sánchez street, at the confluence with the Jardín del Mar III Urbanization, an area known as Doña Inés, due to the obvious need to transit through an area with a significant drop of 1.5 meters.
